Dis-Chem Pharmacies has an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Manager to join their Gauteng stores. In this role, you will learn the overall store operations under the guidance and supervision of an experienced store manager. You will perform a wide range of retail operational duties and gain valuable experience in the retail industry.
Minimum Requirements:
Essential:
-
Grade 12 / Matric
-
1 to 2 years’ experience in retail management disciplines, including stock management, cash handling, reporting, expense control, and customer service
-
A Diploma in Financial / Admin or a relevant 3-year Diploma
-
Computer literate – MS Office
-
Willing and able to work retail hours
-
Valid driver’s license
-
Own reliable transport
Job Description:
-
Ensure proper processing of items such as goods in transit, cycle counts, stock matching, stock takes, shrinkage management, and overall stock levels.

Maintain efficient stock flow to the sales floor.
-
Participate in the management of shrinkage and assist with ordering stock to maintain optimal levels in FMCG, Health, and Beauty sections.
-
Assist in planning, implementing, and maintaining promotional stock displays in the store.
-
Help maintain labeling, pricing, and layout standards for stock.
-
Perform goods receiving duties as per standard operating procedures.
-
Ensure transaction integrity for incoming goods and outgoing returns in accordance with company control procedures.
-
Assist with reconciliation of daily ZMove Packs and adherence to receiving policies.
-
Help achieve store sales targets, particularly in FMCG, Health, and Beauty sections, and work closely with department heads to meet objectives.

Support the effective execution of promotions and ensure coordination between stores for sharing knowledge and planning activities.
-
Stay informed about retail market trends, customer initiatives, and local competitors.
-
Support management in determining profit and sales objectives and propose strategies for inventory management.
-
Suggest innovative ideas to senior management for increasing market share.

Assist in developing regional retail strategies to expand customer base, increase store traffic, and optimize profitability.

Help with daily cash-ups, review reconciliation packs, and manage stock adjustments to the correct GL accounts.

Support management in analyzing financial income statements and ensuring expenses are within budget.

Assist in managing transaction integrity throughout the store and ensuring the accuracy of branch transactions.

Help improve cashier service levels and productivity rates.
-
Assist in controlling overtime and casual staffing costs.
-
Support management in disseminating relevant information between store and department managers.

Participate in internal or external audits and assist with addressing customer complaints and regulating feedback.
-
Encourage new loyalty signups and ensure accurate manual processing of points to customer accounts.

Assist in managing people administration duties, including leave management, scheduling, and staff file management.
-
Facilitate human resources processes in compliance with standard operating procedures.
-
Support the store’s HR policies and system implementations, ensuring employee training and feedback are collected.

Engage in meetings, workshops, and other learning opportunities to support your development.
-
Complete all required learning programs and assessments to become competent in the role.

Maintain up-to-date Portfolio of Evidence for sign-off with the Regional Admin Manager.

Ensure the store’s housekeeping meets Dis-Chem’s standards and that the store remains clean and organized.

Adhere to all Dis-Chem policies, standard operating procedures, health and safety regulations, and uniform standards.
