Purpose of the Role
The Workshop Manager is responsible for maximising service delivery, workshop profitability, and customer satisfaction by driving productivity, efficiency, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Staff Management

Oversee timekeeping, productivity, and efficiency of all workshop staff

Supervise and coach staff to maintain a customer-centric approach

Enforce compliance with PPE and dress code standards
-
Identify training and development needs
-
Conduct performance appraisals and staff reviews
-
Facilitate regular staff meetings and feedback sessions
Workshop Operations and Planning
-
Perform daily planning and management of work in progress
-
Monitor workshop productivity and efficiency on an ongoing basis
-
Liaise with Service Advisors and the Parts Department to ensure parts availability
-
Ensure vehicles are serviced according to original equipment (OE) schedules and standards
-
Optimise utilisation of workshop resources to ensure smooth operations
Customer Service

Keep internal and external customers informed about vehicle status at all times
-
Handle customer complaints promptly and professionally
Workshop Administration
-
Ensure accurate data entry in Embrace, including job times, fault codes, and job types
-
Follow all workshop administrative procedures
-
Ensure precise costing and timely closure of job cards
-
Verify all necessary documentation is attached to job cards both physically and electronically

Manage the monthly transfer of job cards to the Isando filing room
-
Handle quotations and processing for outsourced work as per required timelines
-
Approve job cards according to internal guidelines
-
Monitor and invoice recovery billing for external clients
Reporting

Run daily open job card reports and resolve any unnecessary open WIP
-
Generate and review open purchase order reports
-
Submit all required reports to management on schedule
Asset Management

Manage and maintain workshop tools and equipment
-
Report any damages or losses immediately

Follow proper procedures for asset disposal and approval
Recoveries and Warranty

Ensure correct processes are followed for all recoveries and warranty claims
Financial Oversight

Operate within workshop budget constraints
-
Contribute to financial reporting and support profit and loss tracking
Quality and Compliance

Confirm workshop tools and equipment meet operational requirements
-
Conduct regular spot checks to maintain quality standards
Apprenticeship Programme

Oversee the apprentice programme across all national workshops
General Duties

Uphold professional conduct at all times

Support broader operational functions as needed
-
Ensure consistent compliance with company dress code and SOPs
-
Maintain daily housekeeping and workshop cleanliness
-
Adhere to health and safety protocols
Minimum Requirements
-
Grade 12 (Matric)
-
3–5 years of workshop or field service management experience
-
Diesel mechanic qualification is advantageous
