Job Title: Senior Civil and Structural Engineer
Job Description
Project Life Cycle
- Develop discipline-specific strategies and design criteria tailored to project and client requirements.
- Adhere to project timelines and ensure efficient planning and execution of deliverables.
- Monitor project progress, expedite technical information exchange, and provide regular status updates.
- Participate in project meetings and generate post-project feedback reports.
Design
- Produce cost-effective, safe, and compliant civil/structural designs.
- Develop tender and project designs, comparing scope variations.
- Evaluate design alternatives for cost efficiency and feasibility.
- Prepare quantity and man-hour budgets while maintaining adherence to scope.
- Monitor and authorize scope changes, ensuring compliance with budgetary constraints.
- Verify and validate civil/structural engineering software, understanding limitations.
- Perform order-of-magnitude checks on analysis results.
Administration
- Maintain organized records of calculations, correspondence, and technical documents.
- Implement structured indexing for design criteria, calculations, and software references.
Client Relations (Internal & External)
- Collaborate efficiently with the Drawing Office and cross-functional teams.
- Provide engineering, safety, and ergonomic input during layout and design phases.
- Review and approve final construction drawings promptly.
- Offer technical guidance to suppliers and subcontractors.
- Foster interdepartmental coordination and adopt a customer-centric approach.
Legislation, Policies & Procedures
- Ensure compliance with company specifications, industry standards, and statutory codes.
- Uphold global SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) standards.
- Participate in quality assurance audits and monitor vendor/site quality.
- Adhere to internal Project Management Operating Systems and Engineering Standards.
- Approve construction drawings with necessary professional endorsements.
Continuous Improvement
- Proactively suggest enhancements to work methods and technological solutions.
Qualifications
Education
- B.Sc. / B.Eng. or B.Tech degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
- Must be registered as a Professional Engineer or eligible for registration within 12–24 months of joining SGS Bateman.
Skills & Experience
- 5–25 years of experience in EPC/EPCM projects, preferably in mining, minerals, or petrochemical sectors.
- Strong project management knowledge across all project phases.
- Expertise in civil/structural design criteria, plant layout development, and material fundamentals.
- Understanding of procurement, cost estimation, and commercial Contract principles.
- Proficiency in CAE software (e.g., PROKON, Strand7) and engineering calculations.
- Knowledge of dynamic structures, failure investigations, and quality engineering methods.
- Familiarity with industry legislation, standards, and compliance requirements.
- Adaptability to diverse technical environments and innovative problem-solving skills.
