Boxer Vacancies – Construction OHS Officer

Location: Head Office – Durban
Boxer is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Construction OHS Officer to support safety compliance across all construction and development projects. This role plays a vital part in ensuring that all project activities align with Occupational Health and Safety regulations, internal policies, and industry best practices. The position requires strong contractor management, thorough risk evaluation, and effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements

National Certificate in Construction Safety

National Diploma or 3-year Degree in Safety / Occupational Health and Safety (advantageous)

Up to 3 years’ experience in construction, ideally with OHS and contractor management exposure

SACPCMP registration (preferred)

Strong understanding of the OHS Act, Construction Regulations, and relevant SANS standards

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-
Strong relationship-building, project management, and problem-solving abilities
-
High attention to detail and strong conceptual thinking

Ability to work independently within broad guidelines

Proficiency in relevant OHS systems and reporting tools (Aspirata-OHS System advantageous)
Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and audit contractor management policies and procedures

Identify, assess, and monitor construction-related health and safety risks across multiple projects

Ensure adherence to OHS Act requirements, Construction Regulations, SANS standards, and insurance protocols

Maintain and update risk registers, project profiles, and compliance reports

Collaborate with internal teams including Project Managers, Architects, Facilities & Development Management

Liaise with external stakeholders including Principal Contractors, Department of Labour, and insurance bodies

Conduct frequent site inspections, review health and safety files, and ensure full compliance with project-specific OHS requirements

Investigate incidents, compile recommendations, and follow up on corrective actions

Provide practical training, support, and mentoring to Principal Contractors on OHS best practices
