Job Overview

Pick n Pay is seeking an experienced Product Owner Lead to oversee the development and performance of key products within the Omni-channel team. This senior role maintains the Pod product vision, mentors product owners, and collaborates with cross-functional teams including engineers, designers, and marketers. The Product Owner Lead ensures products deliver measurable value to customers while driving commercial growth and strategic alignment across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Set Vision and Direction

• Contribute to the company-wide product strategy alongside divisional leaders

• Own the Pod strategic roadmap and ensure alignment with organisational goals and market demands

• Drive Pod product strategy and annual strategy sessions to align KPIs with business objectives

• Collaborate with marketing on product launch strategies

• Represent user data and research insights to inform product decisions

• Stay informed on eCommerce technology trends and competitor activity to guide the product vision

• Communicate the Pod product vision to key stakeholders across the organisation

Build and Develop the Team

• Build and lead a high-performing, engaged product team

• Coach, mentor, and develop senior product owners, preparing them for leadership roles

• Create a culture of trust, high performance, and clear communication

• Delegate effectively to optimise team efficiency without overloading own schedule

• Recruit, manage, and develop top talent within the product management function

• Champion innovation and continuous improvement within the team

Product Performance & Optimisation

• Drive commercial sustainability and customer impact for all launched products

• Make strategic priorities and decisions visible through roadmaps, reports, and presentations

• Define and monitor product metrics and KPIs to track performance

• Analyse results and present insights to guide product decisions

Encourage Product Excellence in Process & Delivery

• Lead initiatives to improve product practices and delivery processes

• Ensure product initiatives are prioritised using frameworks such as MOSCOW and Business Scoring

• Coach the team on scope, MVP delivery, and hypothesis-driven development

• Maintain and review product one-pagers to define challenges, opportunities, and solutions

• Ensure product owners manage and maintain their domain roadmaps effectively

Minimum Requirements

• Previous experience as a Senior Product Owner in eCommerce

• Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)

• Experience managing product owners and mentoring teams

• Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field advantageous

• Experience building and running customer-facing eCommerce websites and apps

• Proficiency in Atlassian tools and Agile methodologies

• Strong understanding of eCommerce KPIs and performance metrics
