Job Description

Truworths is seeking an experienced Payroll Accounting Manager to oversee the end-to-end payroll accounting function within the Employee Benefits Department. This role ensures financial accuracy, compliance with legislation, and efficient payroll operations across multiple regions. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical skills, is deadline-driven, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage payroll processes, including general ledger management for RSA, African countries, and the UK

  • Verify payroll data input and output, ensuring accurate and timely employee payments

  • Ensure compliance with payroll-related legislation, including employee tax, benefits, earnings, and deductions

  • Maintain accurate payroll records and prepare management and statutory reports

  • Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly

  • Collaborate with the Employee Benefits Department to maintain accurate employee payroll data

  • Support payroll and benefits audits

  • Develop and implement processes to enhance payroll efficiency and accuracy

  • Oversee the financial impact and reconciliation of share incentive schemes

  • Assist with other accounting and finance functions as required

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience, including:

    • At least 3 years in accounting with focus on payroll and accounts payable

    • Minimum 2 years’ experience in team leadership

  • In-depth knowledge of payroll systems, accounting principles, and payroll regulations

  • Strong understanding of South African payroll and tax laws; knowledge of Employee Tax Incentive (ETI) is advantageous

  • Proficient in payroll software (Oracle preferred) and Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills

  • Experience preparing detailed reports and reconciling payroll accounts

  • Ability to manage budgets and forecasts across RSA and African countries
