Requirements

  • Grade 12 with 5 years’ relevant experience or a minimum of 10 years’ work experience

  • Ability to communicate in English and the dominant local language

  • Strong numeric skills

  • Proven ability to deliver exceptional customer service

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Computer literate

  • Previous cashier experience

Key Responsibilities

Transaction Management

  • Ensure all speed point transactions, including credit and debit card payments, are processed accurately and efficiently

  • Assist customers with requests, queries, and complaints, escalating to management when necessary

  • Maintain fast, friendly, and efficient service for all customers

  • Monitor and control the availability of stationery and consumables in the store

Cash Handling and Banking

  • Manage store floats, petty cash, and change floats

  • Process back-office transactions and perform daily cash-ups for all POS terminals

  • Ensure all cash clearances are completed and queries resolved

  • Supervise CIT (Cash in Transit) collections with a second designated employee present

  • Verify the validity of all returns and ensure correct processing

  • Conduct end-of-day sessions for all POS terminals

Ready for Business

  • Implement Ready for Business processes consistently

  • Maintain tidy and organised Cash Office and POS areas

  • Ensure all Cash Office documentation is filed correctly and up to date

People Management

  • Ensure all cashiers are present and performing their duties according to Ready for Business and Beyond My Control checklists

  • Schedule and supervise all POS employees, including leave and day-off management

  • Provide product knowledge training to cashiers as agreed with the Store Manager

  • Monitor and evaluate cashier performance and ensure adherence to company dress code

Safety and Security

  • Maintain compliance with OHSA safety standards

  • Secure the Cash Office, including locking doors during Pick-Ups, Cash-Ups, and CIT collections

  • Ensure safe key custody and prevent unauthorised access to cash or documentation

  • Monitor and report suspicious behaviour in and around the store
