Job Overview
The Manager – Cyber Defence is responsible for overseeing all cyber defence operations, ensuring the protection of Bayobab’s network, systems, and data. This role leads threat detection, incident response, and remediation activities while contributing to projects and services that align with organizational strategy. The incumbent conducts advanced threat hunting, drives investigations during cyber incidents, and ensures timely resolution to mitigate data breaches and financial losses.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Provide analysis and reporting to support functional strategy aligned with business goals.

  • Monitor and review cyber defence performance, adapting strategy to evolving internal and external threats.

  • Manage Security Operations and third-party services, ensuring SLA compliance and monthly performance reporting.

  • Research emerging cyber threats and implement proactive protective measures.

  • Oversee incident identification, assessment, mitigation, and reporting, ensuring process adherence and SLA compliance.

  • Perform threat modelling, identify threat vectors, and develop use cases for security monitoring.

  • Integrate standard and non-standard logs and continuously improve cyber defence processes.

  • Lead cyber defence audits and assess resilience roadmaps to identify security gaps.

  • Implement vulnerability and threat management strategies and align Group cyber incident response operations.

  • Lead specialist responses to security incidents and guide technology teams during cyber events.

  • Develop, monitor, and execute vulnerability analysis, Pen Tests, and risk mitigation plans.

  • Track, prioritize, and report on remediation of vulnerabilities based on risk criticality.

  • Consolidate dashboards, metrics, and operational reports for management review.

Operational Leadership

  • Participate in strategic and operational meetings to inform decision-making.

  • Prepare proposals for change initiatives, policies, and budgets for internal projects.

  • Manage escalations affecting service delivery, coordinating with stakeholders to implement effective solutions.

  • Review projects, provide input on objectives, targets, and budgets, and manage risks and dependencies.

  • Ensure knowledge transfer of cyber defence methodologies, processes, and tools across the organization.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Provide periodic and ad hoc reports on function progress, operational performance, and vulnerability remediation.

  • Deliver actionable insights to inform strategic and operational decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Business Science, or related field.

  • Relevant certifications: CISM, CISSP, CEH, GCIH, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA PenTest+; other information security certifications advantageous.

Experience

  • 3–5 years in cyber defence or related roles.

  • Experience in medium to large organizations, preferably with Pan-African exposure.

  • Proven expertise in large-scale information security projects and vendor management.

Technical Competencies

  • Deep understanding of cyber-attack tactics, threat vectors, threat intelligence, threat hunting, EDR, UEBA, CASBs, PAM, SDP, incident and vulnerability management.

  • Experience with SIEM, security device management, and continuous threat assessment.

  • Proficiency in multiple operating systems including Windows, Linux, Unix.

  • Familiarity with security frameworks such as NIST CSF, CIS, and ISO standards.

  • Strong analytics, reporting, and dashboard development skills.
