RADIOGRAPHER
Main Purpose of the Role
The Radiographer is responsible for delivering high-quality chest X-ray imaging services, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for image interpretation. The role ensures patient-centred care, accurate diagnosis support, and effective linkage to appropriate health services, while coordinating with district, sub-district, and facility teams to support programme delivery.
Key Performance Areas
Radiography Services
Obtain informed consent from all clients prior to X-ray exposure
Ensure full compliance with Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations
Accurately record patient information, including radiation dose and consumable usage
Maintain complete and precise patient records, including exposure factors
Provide reassurance and support to patients who are unwell or experience communication barriers
Develop in-depth knowledge of radiographic equipment to identify, report, and address faults or errors
Participate in district, sub-district, and facility operational planning for mobile digital chest X-ray deployment
Maintain effective working relationships with outreach teams and facility staff
Liaise with radiologists and medical officers for diagnostic input and technical guidance
Support referral and linkage to care for incidental chest X-ray findings not requiring presumptive TB investigation
Ensure accurate data collection and verification to maintain data quality standards
Prepare equipment and work areas for daily service delivery
Supervise teams to ensure efficient day-to-day service delivery
Interpret and apply safety regulations, operating procedures, and maintenance manuals
Programme and Stakeholder Engagement
Review project performance, progress, and trends in collaboration with programme management teams
Assess the effectiveness of strategies and activities to support performance improvement
Provide feedback to inform adjustments and enhance service delivery
Manage stakeholder relationships with Department of Health facility teams and managers
Provide technical guidance and advice to support TB programme implementation
Deliver weekly, monthly, and quarterly feedback on programme progress
Training, Mentoring, and Resource Coordination
Implement training and mentoring strategies and programmes
Demonstrate clinical competence in delivering training and mentoring interventions
Support improvement in staff competence following mentoring activities
Manage and coordinate shared project resources effectively
Organisational Support
Provide guidance and training on clinical ethics and professional conduct
Remain current with clinical developments through ongoing training, in-service education, and review of relevant policies and procedures
Support the setting of goals, objectives, and quality improvement interventions
Ensure medical equipment is fully functional and that adequate clinical supplies and stationery are available
Comply with health and safety, infection prevention, and control policies and procedures
Drive project vehicles as required and adhere to Anova vehicle management policies
Undertake additional duties as assigned by management
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Diagnostic Radiography
Current HPCSA registration as a Radiographer
Minimum of three years’ experience working as a Radiographer
Valid driver’s licence
Advantageous
At least six months’ experience in a supervisory role
