Cashier

Dischem Vacancies is seeking experienced and customer-focused Cashiers to support point-of-sale operations and deliver a world-class shopping experience. The role is responsible for accurately processing customer transactions while adhering to company policies, procedures, and security standards with zero tolerance for inaccuracies or fraud.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Sales Support

  • Deliver excellent customer service in line with Dis-Chem service standards
  • Build professional and positive relationships with customers
  • Handle customer queries related to store merchandise
  • Communicate customer compliments and complaints to supervisors or store management

Point of Sale Operations

  • Accurately record all customer transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system
  • Process all forms of payment including cash, cards, vouchers, coupons, and approved alternatives
  • Process loyalty cards and accelerator partner programs
  • Ensure adherence to required customer turnover rates

Cash Handling & Security

  • Manage cash flow responsibly and ensure daily takings are handled confidentially
  • Ensure all voids and price changes are authorised by a supervisor
  • Secure cash in drop safes in line with standard operating procedures
  • Ensure all stock items and prescriptions are scanned and paid for
  • Safeguard till access codes and passwords at all times

Compliance & Risk Control

  • Adhere to Dis-Chem security, safety, and operational procedures
  • Monitor and report suspicious behaviour to management
  • Ensure colleagues and customers are not exposed to risk

Minimum Requirements

Essential

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Minimum of 6 months’ cashier or till operation experience
  • Computer literacy including MS Office
  • Sound numerical skills with strong accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Basic customer service skills
  • Willing and able to work retail hours

  • Ability to process sales, refunds, and multiple payment methods
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Problem-solving and basic report analysis skills
  • Effective time management
