Main Purpose of the Role
The Business Controller is responsible for analyzing profit and loss performance above EBITDA and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of monthly management accounts for the business unit. This role drives profitability, performance, and financial discipline while acting as a trusted finance business partner to operations. The Business Controller supports management with objective financial insights, accurate forecasting and budgeting, and contributes to informed decision-making through board packs and business cases.
Tertiary Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

Job-Related Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a financial controlling or accounting role, preferably within the logistics industry
- Proven experience as a finance business partner supporting non-financial managers
- Strong technical accounting knowledge with a sound understanding of financial statements and IFRS
- High attention to detail with strong analytical and logical thinking skills
- Ability to deliver accurate outputs within strict deadlines
- Capability to influence and indirectly supervise stakeholders across departments
- Strong focus on financial controls and process compliance
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Willingness to work extended hours when required
- Proactive, self-driven team player with strong initiative

Added Advantages for the Role
- ACCA, CIMA, or CA(SA) qualification or progress toward certification
- Experience in a shared services finance environment
- Exposure to Contract Logistics or Warehousing operations
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and present monthly management accounts using SAP ERP and SAP SAC, including detailed variance analysis and commentary
- Analyze site and business unit performance and recommend initiatives to improve profitability
- Lead and coordinate the annual budgeting process and prepare P&L budgets using SAP SAC tools
- Develop rolling forecasts for business review and approval and report to regional or group management
- Analyze and improve processes related to work-in-progress and gross profit estimation
- Review reconciliations between billing systems and financial systems
- Monitor EBIT performance and provide accurate month-end forecasts
- Prepare and present financial and operational reports, including sales and client profitability analysis
- Act as the primary liaison between Shared Services Centres and operational teams
- Drive improvements in net working capital in collaboration with the business
- Validate and maintain SAP controlling structures, including cost centres
- Analyze and report on staff costs, headcount, and FTE metrics
- Participate in local management meetings and represent finance shared services
- Ensure adherence to financial processes and controls across finance and operations
- Support group and local statutory audits by providing required IFRS-related information
- Prepare and deliver ad hoc financial reports, board presentations, and special analyses
- Support strategic decision-making through scenario modelling, simulations, and business case development
- Conduct regular controller visits and internal audits, reporting findings and ensuring corrective actions
- Drive business profitability and performance through continuous financial review, training, and support
