Tyre Maintenance Controller

Purpose of the Job
The Tyre Maintenance Controller is responsible for conducting routine tyre maintenance, including tyre surveys, replacements, and breakdown interventions for the Value fleet of vehicles. This role ensures that all tyres are maintained to company standards, accurately recorded, and serviced promptly to support fleet safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Stock Management

• Ensure tyre stock is securely stored at all times.
• Assist in investigating and reporting stock discrepancies daily.
• Support monthly cycle counts of tyre inventory.

Tyre Surveys

• Drive to sites as required, prioritising vehicle surveys according to the fleet list.
• Conduct daily tyre surveys using the Intersect Tyre Management Software or manual documentation if offline.
• Capture accurate survey data including brand numbers, wheel positions, tyre pressure, and tread depth.
• Ensure all vehicles, including spares, are surveyed monthly, and report missing spares to the supervisor.
• Spray spare wheel rims with red paint for easy identification.
• Ensure wheel nuts are torqued correctly and indicators fitted where missing.
• Take photos of scrap tyres and submit to the supervisor.
• Communicate daily progress, issues, and pending surveys with the supervisor.

Tyre Branding

• Report tyres without brand numbers to the supervisor.
• Apply branding according to the listing provided.

Tyre Replacement

• Identify and replace worn, punctured, or damaged tyres according to SOP.
• Complete and submit tyre change slips accurately and on time.

Tyre Rotations

• Rotate tyres as per tread-matching requirements.
• Complete and submit rotation slips daily to the supervisor.

Breakdowns

• Ensure breakdown support vehicles are loaded with the correct tyres.
• Attend tyre-related breakdowns promptly while complying with driving regulations.
• Complete all breakdown reports and change slips, returning damaged tyres to the depot for supervisor handover.

Company Equipment & Assets

• Keep maintenance tablets and tools secured when not in use.
• Conduct daily vehicle checklists and submit to supervisor.
• Ensure company vehicles are parked, locked, and keys secured at the end of each shift.
• Report any vehicle accidents, damages, or defective tools to the supervisor.
• Submit weekly tyre bay tool checklists.

Housekeeping

• Maintain a clean and organized work area and company vehicle at all times.

Health & Safety

• Comply with all health and safety rules, including the use of PPE.
• Report any health and safety issues or near-misses immediately.
• Handle dangerous goods safely and responsibly.

General Responsibilities

• Adhere to all company procedures and policies including SOPs, HR policies, POPIA, dress code, attendance, and smoking regulations.
• Assist with any other company requirements as needed.
• Weekend work may be required occasionally.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Code B driver’s license
• 1–2 years’ experience in heavy-duty tyre maintenance
• Physically able to lift heavy objects
