Diesel Mechanic

Purpose of the Job
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for conducting all maintenance and repair work on vehicles as per the Value job card, ensuring that vehicles are serviced efficiently, safely, and in accordance with manufacturer specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance and Repairs

• Conduct visual inspections and on-board diagnostics during pre-diagnosis.
• Review workshop job cards for accuracy and clarity before commencing work.
• Adhere to flat rates on all repairs.
• Attend to both office-hour and after-hour breakdowns.
• Ensure all parts used, including engine oils, are booked to the job card.
• Prepare operating equipment and gather necessary parts for the service bay.
• Perform maintenance services according to manufacturer specifications and maintenance schedules.
• Conduct visual inspections, calibrations, and adjustments as required.
• Identify deviations, irregularities, or unusual wear and report to the Workshop Foreman.
• Reset maintenance systems following internal processes and procedures.
• Inspect dismantled parts and replace with new or reconditioned parts as needed.
• Return old or unusable parts and document all work carried out.
• Compare vehicle condition against production configurations to evaluate technical status.
• Perform final checks using testing and measuring equipment to ensure vehicles are roadworthy and functionally reliable.

Professional Conduct and Operational Support

• Maintain professional conduct at all times.
• Assist in operational functions as required.
• Adhere to company dress code and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Maintain daily housekeeping standards in the workshop.
• Comply with Health and Safety standards consistently.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Trade-tested Commercial Vehicle Diesel Technician

• Ability to apply appropriate techniques to maintain a professional work area.
• Capability to interpret customer usage patterns for maintenance purposes.
• Apply business principles within own work environment.
• Handle customer interactions directly related to own functions.
• Identify and manage hazards under direct supervision.
• Apply basic Health and Safety procedures relevant to own work functions.
