Skipper – Sea Harvest Vacancies

Job Purpose
Oversee the safe and efficient operation of a fishing vessel, managing crew, navigating to optimal fishing grounds, and ensuring fishing activities are conducted in compliance with legal, safety, and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

Safety and Compliance

• Ensure full compliance with safe manning requirements, SAMSA, Maritime OSH, Class regulations, and company watchkeeping procedures.
• Adhere to all fishing regulations and permit conditions.
• Promote a strong culture of safety for the crew and vessel operations.

Vessel Operations & Equipment Maintenance

• Maintain all machinery and equipment in optimal working condition.
• Ensure continuous, effective, and efficient vessel operations.

Fishing Performance

• Manage fishing gear and equipment to ensure proper care and maintenance.
• Operate safely on hazardous fishing grounds.
• Achieve defined fishing and production targets.

Quality & Cost Control

• Maintain defined quality standards for all catch.
• Ensure vessel operates within allocated budgets.

Crew Management & Skill Development

• Maintain discipline and promote a harmonious working environment.
• Foster skill transfer among officers and crew members.
• Motivate and develop team members for improved performance and safety awareness.

Qualifications and Competencies

• Fisherman Grade 2 or Skipper Fishing >24m (Limited Waters).
• Valid unrestricted SAMSA Medical Certificate.
• Valid STCW documentation.
• Proven experience in Hake Bottom Trawling and Freezer Trawler operations.
• Strong personnel management and safety awareness.
• Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
• Ability to follow company instructions and procedures accurately.
• Strong leadership and motivational skills.
