About the Role
Dischem Vacancies is seeking a Head of Talent & Culture to join the team in Midrand. This strategic leadership role is responsible for building an integrated, high-impact Talent and Culture function that attracts, develops, engages, and retains top talent while fostering a values-based, inclusive culture. The role uses data-driven insights, innovative practices, and strategic partnerships to position Dischem as an employer of choice and a magnet for high-impact talent.

Minimum Requirements

Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Organisational Development, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Talent or Organisational Development roles
  • Proven success driving enterprise-wide culture change and talent strategies in multi-site environments (retail, healthcare, or FMCG preferred)
  • Experience with digital talent platforms, workforce analytics, and succession planning tools

Advantageous

  • Master’s Degree or Executive Programme in Strategic HR, Organisational Development, or Business

Key Responsibilities

Talent Strategy & Workforce Planning

  • Develop and lead a group-wide talent strategy aligned to business growth, skills demand, and future workforce trends
  • Partner with business units to design workforce plans addressing critical role pipelines, capability gaps, and transformation goals
  • Define frameworks and analytics to manage workforce composition, mobility, and retention proactively
  • Lead future-fit recruitment strategies aligned to workforce needs, DEI, and growth objectives
  • Integrate workforce analytics to optimise sourcing, hiring timelines, quality-of-hire, and internal mobility
  • Champion employer branding initiatives in priority markets
  • Deploy a talent data framework focusing on predictive analytics, risk forecasting, and ROI of people interventions

Leadership Pipeline & Succession Management

  • Design and operationalise succession plans for leadership and critical technical roles
  • Establish talent reviews, 9-box calibration, and talent mapping to inform readiness and development priorities
  • Collaborate with the Head of Learning & Leadership to embed career architecture and internal mobility initiatives

Culture Transformation & Employee Experience

  • Lead the implementation of Dischem’s culture framework anchored in the “Formula for Success”
  • Embed values, behaviours, and mindsets that enable innovation, service excellence, agility, and inclusion
  • Monitor and shift organisational culture through diagnostics, storytelling, and leadership enablement
  • Develop and deliver a compelling, integrated Employee Value Proposition (EVP) across the organisation
  • Oversee employee listening programmes and feedback platforms to guide people strategy
  • Partner with Employer Branding and Communications to activate purpose-driven people messaging and campaigns

Transformation, Inclusion & Belonging

  • Enable organisational transformation by aligning talent strategies with change and culture initiatives
  • Lead initiatives promoting belonging, accessibility, and inclusive talent practices across the employee lifecycle
  • Support BBBEE and national transformation objectives through targeted interventions
  • Drive behavioural change frameworks to deliver strategic transformation outcomes

People Leadership

  • Foster a high-performing, collaborative, and accountable culture within the People & Culture retail team
  • Equip the team with skills, agility, and leadership capabilities to support a fast-paced retail environment
  • Provide leadership and direction to deliver people priorities that enable retail operations and business performance
  • Ensure the P&C team is structured and resourced to meet current and future business needs
