General Assistant

Job Purpose
Ensure excellent customer service within the Store by supporting effective merchandising, accurate shelf price labelling, and maintaining high housekeeping standards in the allocated area of responsibility.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 with at least 1 year relevant work experience, or

  • Grade 12 with no prior related work experience

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language

  • Valid South African ID or valid work permit

  • Ability to perform basic calculations accurately

  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays

  • Ability to work well under pressure

Key Performance Areas

Customer Service

  • Advise and assist customers with product selection and queries

  • Assist in resolving customer complaints in a professional manner

Merchandising Standards

  • Merchandise bulk stock safely in line with the Store layout plan

  • Ensure the assigned area is fully merchandised according to Store layouts and planograms

Housekeeping

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and obstacle-free work area

  • Ensure stock is merchandised immediately after receipt

  • Ensure customers can safely enter and exit aisles without risk

  • Maintain correct shelf price labelling in the allocated area

  • Complete all required checklists, including canteen and ablution schedules, while on duty

Safety (OHSA) Compliance

  • Adhere to all OHSA safety requirements, including correct use of safety gear

  • Ensure racking and bulk stock are merchandised safely for customers and colleagues

  • Report any safety risks or discrepancies to the Store Manager

Stock Loss Control

  • Report damaged stock within the area of responsibility to the Store Manager
