Purpose of the Job
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for performing maintenance and repair work on vehicles in line with Value job cards, ensuring all work meets manufacturer specifications and internal quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance and Repairs

• Conduct visual inspections and onboard diagnostics during pre-diagnosis.
• Review workshop job cards for accuracy and understanding before starting work.
• Adhere to flat rates on all repairs.
• Attend to breakdowns during office hours and after hours.
• Ensure all parts used, including engine oils, are correctly booked to the job card.
• Prepare operating equipment and required parts for the service bay.
• Perform maintenance services according to manufacturer specifications and maintenance schedules.
• Conduct visual inspections, calibration, adjustments, and other technical checks.
• Identify deviations, unusual wear, and irregularities, providing feedback to the Workshop Foreman.
• Reset maintenance systems following internal processes and procedures.
• Inspect dismantled parts, replacing them with new or reconditioned components as necessary.
• Return unusable parts to suppliers and document all work completed.
• Compare vehicle conditions with standard production configurations and evaluate technical performance.
• Perform final checks using testing and measuring equipment to ensure vehicles are roadworthy and reliable.

Operational Support and Compliance

• Maintain professional conduct at all times.
• Assist with operational functions as required.
• Adhere to company dress code and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Maintain daily housekeeping standards in the workshop.
• Follow Health and Safety standards consistently.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Trade-tested Commercial Vehicle Diesel Technician

• Ability to use appropriate techniques to maintain a professional work environment.
• Basic analytical skills to interpret vehicle usage patterns.
• Apply business principles within own work area.
• Directly interact with customers regarding own work functions.
• Identify hazards and follow guidance to manage them safely.
• Apply basic Health and Safety procedures under supervision.
