Main Purpose of the Role
The Key Account Manager is responsible for driving customer success through strategic account leadership, service excellence, and long-term retention. This role serves as the primary custodian of key customer relationships within DSV Contract Logistics, ensuring a consistently high-quality, value-driven customer experience.
Acting as a trusted advisor, the Key Account Manager bridges strategy and execution across operations, engineering, finance, and global stakeholders. The role focuses on understanding customer needs, translating challenges into practical solutions, and ensuring alignment between customer expectations and DSV’s service delivery. Through proactive engagement, performance governance, and commercial insight, the role directly influences customer satisfaction, operational performance, retention, and growth.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead structured customer engagements, including monthly KPI and performance reviews, quarterly business reviews, annual executive meetings, and focused operational sessions
- Serve as the voice of the customer within the organization, anticipating needs and guiding internal alignment
- Collaborate across DSV’s global network to deliver a consistent, world-class customer experience
- Develop in-depth understanding of customer operations, challenges, market pressures, and growth strategies
- Drive customer satisfaction and retention by monitoring sentiment and proactively addressing risks
- Own KPI governance, ensuring accurate reporting and leading corrective action plans where required
- Manage customer survey feedback, translating insights into actionable improvement plans
- Act as the central coordination point for issue resolution, ensuring effective and professional communication
- Identify and drive value creation opportunities, including scope expansion, value-added services, and cross-selling across the DSV Group
- Conduct structured customer consultations in line with DSV global standards
- Manage the full commercial lifecycle, including rate adjustments, contract renewals, scope changes, renegotiations, and RFP retention cycles
- Lead first-level customer escalations and support complex commercial discussions
- Partner with Engineering teams to govern and deliver continuous improvement commitments
Tertiary Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, or a related field
- An advanced qualification such as an MBA is advantageous
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the logistics industry, including transport, warehousing, or a combination
- At least 5 years’ experience in Key Account Management within the logistics sector
- Proven experience managing key accounts, preferably within Contract Logistics and the automotive environment
Technical Proficiency
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills for analysis, reporting, and customer presentations
- Experience with CRM platforms such as Microsoft Dynamics
- Working knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems and Transport Management Systems
