Job Description

Truworths is seeking an experienced Tax Accountant to join our finance team and play a key role in tax compliance, strategy, and risk management across multiple jurisdictions. This role is ideal for a technically skilled tax professional with expertise in Direct, Indirect, or International tax, ready to deliver both compliance and strategic advisory solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage complex corporate tax and VAT returns across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Perform deferred tax calculations and prepare IFRS-compliant tax disclosures for financial reporting.
  • Provide advisory support on cross-border tax matters, including transfer pricing and international tax developments.
  • Strengthen tax controls and ensure alignment with group governance standards.
  • Support internal tax audits, revenue authority engagements, and litigation processes.
  • Contribute to board-level reporting, including risk management disclosures and statutory compliance updates.
  • Research tax matters affecting the Group and provide insights for discussion at the Tax Forum.
  • Deliver technical training to internal teams and contribute to a tax centre of excellence.
  • Draft and refine tax policy notes, procedures, and internal guidance to enhance compliance standards.

Qualifications & Experience

  • BCom degree with a postgraduate specialisation in Taxation or Accounting (e.g., Honours).
  • Minimum 5–8 years’ relevant tax experience.
  • Multi-jurisdictional or multi-disciplinary tax experience is advantageous.
  • Experience in the retail industry is beneficial.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of tax compliance, reporting processes, and applicable legislation.
  • Proficient in deferred tax schedules, temporary difference analysis, and accurate tax rate application.
  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Access) with advanced Excel skills.
