Boilermaker – Value Logistics
Purpose of the Role
The Boilermaker is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal components for truck bodies with a strong focus on precision, quality, and safety. The role involves executing welding and fabrication tasks, maintaining equipment, and ensuring all work is completed according to project specifications and deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
• Metal Fabrication and Welding
• Cut, shape, and assemble metal components with accuracy and precision
• Perform welding tasks using appropriate techniques and equipment
• Operate tools such as plasma cutters, grinders, and shears effectively
• Select suitable materials based on project requirements
• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications
• Measure and mark materials to ensure proper alignment and fit
• Carry out repairs on damaged truck body components
• Perform routine maintenance on fabricated structures
• Stay updated with current welding and fabrication methods and technologies
• Quality Control and Safety Compliance
• Inspect completed work to ensure it meets required quality standards
• Adhere strictly to all safety procedures and guidelines
• Maintain and clean all welding and fabrication equipment regularly
• Identify and resolve fabrication issues efficiently
• Collaboration and Communication
• Work closely with team members, supervisors, and management
• Ensure tasks are completed within set timelines
• Communicate progress and challenges effectively
• Maintain accurate records of work completed, including materials used and time spent
• Panel Shop Operations
• Review job cards or quotations to determine required work
• Inspect vehicles against job specifications to identify required parts and additional damage
• Order necessary parts and follow up to ensure availability
• Verify that all received parts are correct and undamaged
• Ensure parts requiring painting are sent to the paint shop with the vehicle
• Strip and reassemble vehicle components as required
• Ensure correct panel alignment and proper fitment of all parts
• Conduct final quality checks to ensure work meets high standards
• Perform a final inspection to confirm vehicle roadworthiness
Minimum Requirements
• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Red Seal Trade Certificate
• Minimum of 5 years’ relevant workshop experience
Skills and Competencies
• Strong attention to detail for precise measurements and high-quality workmanship
• High level of safety awareness and compliance
• Proficiency in metal cutting, shaping, and welding techniques
• Skilled in the use of fabrication tools and equipment
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
