About the Role
Dischem is seeking an experienced Cashier to join the team at their Weskus Mall store. The successful candidate will provide excellent customer service at the point of sale while ensuring accurate transaction processing. The role requires strict adherence to company policies, maintaining accuracy in all transactions, and preventing any risk of fraud.
Minimum Requirements
Essential
- Grade 12 / Matric
- At least 6 months of cashier or till operations experience
- Computer literacy with MS Office
- Strong numerical ability
- Good command of the English language
- Basic customer service skills
- Willing and able to work retail hours
Key Responsibilities
- Follow all Dischem customer service policies and procedures
- Build and maintain professional relationships with customers
- Report customer compliments and complaints to the Frontline Supervisor or store management
- Maintain the required hourly customer turnover rate
- Stay informed about current promotions and sales
- Ensure the safety of colleagues and customers at all times
- Apply the Dischem 5-star communication principles in all interactions
- Manage and maintain accurate cash flow at the till
- Ensure all line voids and price changes are approved and signed off by a supervisor
- Process merchandise exchanges and authorised returns
- Handle all transactions including cash, cards, vouchers, coupons, and other accepted payment methods
- Process loyalty cards and partner programmes including Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, and eBucks
- Place cash into the drop safe according to company standard operating procedures
- Keep your system code and password secure and update it regularly
- Ensure all outgoing items are scanned and paid for before leaving the store
- Keep all cash safely secured inside the till at all times
- Handle daily takings confidentially and only discuss with management
- Stay alert and report suspicious activities to management
- Assist customers with queries about store merchandise
- Comply with all company security procedures
Required Competencies

- Strong knowledge of operating cash registers and maintaining cash drawers
- Understanding of processing sales, refunds, and payments
- Strong written and verbal English communication
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Professional and presentable appearance

- Ability to analyse basic reports
- Effective time management

- Ability to speak a third additional language
