Purpose of the Role
The General Manager is responsible for leading and managing all branches, sites, suppliers, and client relationships within the region. This role ensures alignment and execution of regional strategic objectives in line with the organisation’s overall goals. The General Manager is accountable for revenue completeness, financial performance, gross profit, operational excellence, service delivery, client retention, and sustainable growth across the region, while ensuring full compliance with internal and external requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the delivery of organisational objectives through effective communication, performance measurement, and staff motivation
• Manage and optimise operations across all regional branches and sites to ensure consistent delivery of the service catalogue
• Drive revenue growth, profitability, and cost control across the region
• Manage regional P&L, budgets, forecasts, and financial performance per branch and site
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, global and local KPIs, and regulatory requirements
• Identify business risks and opportunities that may impact performance or shareholder commitments
• Build, manage, and develop high-performing teams through effective performance management and talent development
• Maintain strong collaboration with shared services and support functions
• Oversee daily operational performance to consistently achieve performance metrics
• Ensure effective customer engagement and resolution of service delivery issues and complaints
• Analyse operational failures, client complaints, damages, and delivery issues to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
• Manage productivity, efficiency, and cost control across all branches and sites
• Ensure adherence to deadlines, schedules, and operational commitments
• Actively drive and implement company initiatives within the region
• Manage resources, risk, and administrative responsibilities relevant to the role
• Ensure all owned, leased, hired, or supplier-provided vehicles are roadworthy and compliant with all legal requirements
• Oversee fleet management including maintenance, condition, and fuel consumption
• Ensure effective use of financial and operational tools across branches and sites
• Review and validate monthly and annual forecasts for accuracy and justification
• Lead the budgeting process for the financial year in line with company guidelines
• Ensure implementation, monitoring, and sustainability of Quality, Safety, Health and Environmental (QSHE) management systems
Minimum Requirements
• BCom Degree in Transport and Logistics (advantageous)
• Extensive senior operations management experience
• Minimum of 15 years’ experience within the logistics environment
• Strong operations, HR, and industrial relations knowledge
• Proven experience managing full P&L responsibility, budgets, forecasts, and revenue
• Advanced MS Excel skills including pivot tables, formulas, and charts
• Sound knowledge of the Labour Relations Act and Basic Conditions of Employment Act
