About the Role
Dischem Vacancies is seeking a Head of Learning & Leadership Development to join the team in Midrand. This role is responsible for designing and executing an integrated learning and leadership development strategy that strengthens the capability pipeline, supports career growth, and drives operational excellence through future-ready, digital-first learning solutions. The position provides strategic leadership for learning initiatives across Dischem, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities, the Employee Value Proposition (EVP), and digital transformation efforts. A key focus is embedding modern leadership practices to support growth, innovation, and culture transformation.
Minimum Requirements
Essential
- Bachelor’s Degree in HR, Learning & Development, Organisational Psychology, or related field
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in Learning & Development, with at least 5 years in senior leadership
- Proven success leading national learning teams in multi-site environments (retail, FMCG, or healthcare preferred)
- Strong knowledge of leadership development frameworks, adult learning principles, instructional design, and SETA compliance
Key Responsibilities
Learning Strategy & Organisational Capability
- Develop and lead a group-wide learning strategy aligned to business priorities, growth targets, and talent needs across retail, healthcare, distribution, and support functions
- Integrate learning into performance, transformation, and succession plans to build talent readiness at all levels
- Translate business challenges into learning solutions that improve productivity, compliance, innovation, and employee experience
- Implement metrics to measure learning impact, cost-effectiveness, engagement, and business outcomes
Leadership Development & Future-Fit Capabilities
- Define and implement modern leadership development practices based on inclusive, empathetic, and agile leadership models
- Oversee design and delivery of leadership journeys for frontline, mid-level, and executive leaders
- Build a future-fit leadership pipeline through immersive learning experiences, mentorship, and coaching
Learning Pathways & Career Development
- Develop structured, integrated learning pathways linking roles, skills, qualifications, and career progression
- Collaborate with Talent & Culture and Total Rewards to embed learning into career architecture, internal mobility, and EVP initiatives
- Ensure learning is visible, accessible, and supports self-directed development with recognition systems
Digital Learning & Innovation
- Lead development and curation of scalable digital learning content and platforms (LMS, microlearning, mobile-first tools)
- Promote blended, social, and AI-powered learning models to enhance agility and accessibility
- Use data analytics to measure impact, engagement, and ROI, continuously improving learning initiatives
People Leadership
- Foster a high-performing, collaborative, and accountable culture within the People & Culture retail team
- Equip the P&C team with skills and capabilities to support a fast-paced retail environment
- Provide leadership and direction to deliver people priorities that enable business performance
- Ensure the P&C team is effectively structured and resourced for current and future retail needs
