Purpose of the Role
The Technologist provides advanced technical support in a highly complex process environment. This role is responsible for independently formulating technical approaches, assimilating and interpreting data, and implementing cost-effective solutions within advanced control applications and systems to support business competitiveness and operational excellence.

Key Accountabilities
• Deliver technical solutions that contribute to improved business performance and competitiveness
• Develop instrumentation scopes of work for engineering and construction contractors
• Solve complex technical problems impacting the business unit and value chain
• Improve technology application and integration within at least one defined technology area
• Verify quality and effectiveness of group technical deliverables
• Independently implement cost-effective, fit-for-purpose technical solutions
• Optimise and control resources within approved budgets
• Establish and maintain technical policies, standards, procedures, and best practices
• Ensure compliance with legal requirements, internal policies, standards, and procedures
• Monitor performance of implemented technical solutions and systems
• Deliver expert analysis, decision-making, and problem-solving support
• Capture, share, and transfer technical knowledge in line with knowledge management standards
• Review process and risk impacts across a portfolio of maintenance projects
• Take corrective action where required on maintenance and improvement projects
• Deliver quality solutions on time and within defined risk parameters
• Formulate and implement independent technical approaches for assigned projects
• Manage a portfolio of maintenance projects and support project planning activities
• Support Sasol’s vision, values, and Aspirational Culture initiative
• Act as a coach and mentor to team members and contribute to skills development
• Build strong internal and external networks with engineering partners, suppliers, and specialist bodies
• Liaise with Engineering Centres of Excellence to address risks and long-term technical requirements
• Maintain effective relationships with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders
• Communicate best practices, technical reports, and position statements to relevant stakeholders
• Take accountability for personal performance, development, and continuous improvement

Formal Education
• BTech, Bachelor’s Degree, or Higher/Advanced Diploma in a relevant discipline

Experience
• Minimum of 6 years’ relevant technical experience

Technical Competencies
• Strong knowledge of DeltaV DCS and AMS systems
• Good knowledge of PLCs and ESD systems, including HIMA
• Understanding of Bentley Nevada vibration protection systems
• Solid understanding of level measurement and control systems
• Knowledge of Functional Safety and Safety Integrity Levels (SIL)
• Understanding of Explosion Prevention principles
• Knowledge of Management of Change (MOC) processes

• Strong equipment utilisation and electrical fundamentals knowledge
