Tyre Maintenance Controller – Value Logistics
Purpose of the Role
The Tyre Maintenance Controller is responsible for travelling to various sites to perform routine tyre maintenance, breakdown support, and tyre surveys for the company fleet. The role ensures optimal tyre performance, safety compliance, and accurate reporting while maintaining company standards and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Stock Control
- Ensure all tyre stock is securely stored and controlled at all times
- Assist with daily discrepancy investigations and reporting
- Support monthly stock cycle counts
Tyre Surveys
- Travel to designated sites as required
- Prioritize tyre inspections based on fleet schedules provided by the supervisor
- Conduct daily tyre surveys using tyre management systems, with manual recording when necessary
- Capture accurate data including tyre brands, positions, pressure levels, and tread depth
- Ensure all vehicles, including spare wheels, are inspected and maintained monthly
- Report missing spare wheels and apply identification markings where required
- Check and secure wheel nuts, fitting indicators where needed
- Document and report tyre conditions, including scrap tyres with supporting evidence
- Provide daily updates to the supervisor on progress and identified issues
Tyre Branding
- Identify tyres without brand markings and report accordingly
- Apply tyre branding as per company requirements
Tyre Replacement and Rotations
- Identify and replace worn, damaged, or punctured tyres in line with procedures
- Perform tyre rotations to ensure even wear and optimal performance
- Complete and submit tyre change documentation accurately and on time
Breakdown Support
- Prepare breakdown support vehicles with the correct tyre specifications
- Respond promptly to tyre-related breakdowns on-site
- Ensure all breakdown activities are handled efficiently and safely
- Complete all required reports and documentation for tyre replacements
- Return damaged tyres to the depot and hand over with supporting documentation
Company Equipment and Asset Management
- Safely store and secure all company devices and equipment
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections and submit reports
- Ensure company vehicles are properly parked, locked, and secured after use
- Report any vehicle damages or incidents immediately
- Maintain all tools and equipment in good working condition
- Submit regular equipment checklists and report any defects
Housekeeping
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment and company vehicle
Health and Safety Compliance
- Follow all health and safety regulations and procedures
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
- Report any safety risks, incidents, or near misses immediately
General Responsibilities
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including operational, HR, and compliance requirements
- Support additional operational needs as required
- Be available for occasional weekend work
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Valid Code B driver’s license
- 1–2 years’ experience in heavy-duty tyre maintenance
- Physically capable of handling heavy lifting
