Purpose of the Job
The Nightshift Controller is responsible for coordinating and supervising nightshift operations to ensure efficient, safe, and on-time delivery services. The role oversees driver management, fleet readiness, route planning, dispatch, and strict adherence to operational and safety standards while maintaining high service levels.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management

Supervise and monitor driver attendance, absenteeism, and staffing levels

Oversee vehicle loading and preloading activities
-
Coordinate driver-related requirements with the Labour Broker and Regional Manager
-
Ensure accurate capture of drivers’ hours for weekly wage reporting
-
Manage fuel operations including refuelling, fuel consumption tracking, card usage, and reconciliations
-
Ensure fleet condition complies with SEC Manual standards
-
Coordinate daily route planning, loading/offloading, document handovers, and driver dispatch
-
Ensure compliance with accident, product claim, and vehicle breakdown procedures
-
Communicate operational updates effectively with the Account Manager
-
Debrief driver trip sheets and validate against vehicle tracking reports
-
Supervise pre- and post-trip inspections, logbooks, workshop bookings, and COF checks
-
Manage ad hoc vehicle requirements as needed
-
Ensure all driver documentation is valid and current, including PDPs, licences, medical certificates, and specialist permits
-
Control issuance and usage of PPE and uniforms
-
Ensure vehicle tracking systems are functional and arrange repairs where required
-
Maintain high housekeeping standards to ensure a safe and clean site
-
Conduct monthly panic button tests and tyre surveys
-
Ensure all deliveries meet front-end planning requirements
-
Verify load security and safety compliance prior to dispatch
-
Secure all vehicle keys at the end of each shift

Management Reports covering STOs, average loading times, and out-of-area movements

Supervise completion, handover, and sign-off of all customer documentation
Customer Service & Relationship Management

Build and maintain strong customer relationships by meeting agreed service levels

Monitor customer KPIs and SLAs to ensure targets are consistently achieved
-
Compile and present customer KPI reports, operational feedback, and proactively highlight constraints or risks
Minimum Requirements
-
Grade 12 (Matric)
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Skills Requirements

Fleet and route management with strong local geographical knowledge

Staff supervision and operational coordination

Strong reporting, analytical, and problem-solving skills

High level of administrative accuracy

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
