General Assistant

Job Purpose
The General Assistant is responsible for delivering excellent customer service, maintaining merchandising standards, and ensuring effective housekeeping within the assigned store area. This role supports a safe, organized, and customer-friendly shopping environment while contributing to efficient store operations.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service

Provide friendly, professional assistance to customers regarding products and queries

Resolve customer complaints promptly and escalate when necessary
-
Create a welcoming in-store experience with a service-oriented approach
Merchandising Standards
-
Merchandise bulk and shelf stock safely in line with store layout plans and planograms
-
Ensure assigned areas are fully stocked, neat, and visually appealing
-
Maintain accurate shelf price labelling within the area of responsibility
Housekeeping
-
Keep aisles clear of obstacles to ensure safe customer movement
-
Merchandise stock immediately after receiving to prevent congestion
-
Complete required checklists for canteen and toilet/shower schedules when on duty
Safety and Compliance
-
Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) requirements at all times
-
Use prescribed safety gear and promote customer and staff safety
-
Ensure racking and bulk stock are safely merchandised
-
Report safety concerns or discrepancies to the Store Manager
Stock Loss Control

Identify and report damaged stock to the Store Manager
-
Support loss prevention initiatives within the assigned area
Minimum Requirements
-
Minimum Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 with at least one year of relevant work experience, or
-
Grade 12 with no prior work experience

Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language

Valid South African ID or valid work permit
-
Ability to perform basic calculations accurately

Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays

Ability to work effectively under pressure
