Purpose of the Job
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for carrying out maintenance and repair work on commercial vehicles in line with approved job cards and manufacturer specifications. The role ensures vehicles are serviced, repaired, and returned to operation safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and Health and Safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Vehicle Maintenance and Repairs

• Conduct visual inspections and on-board diagnostics during pre-diagnosis

• Review workshop job cards for accuracy and understanding before commencing work

• Perform maintenance and repair tasks in accordance with flat rate standards

• Attend to breakdowns during office hours and after hours as required

• Ensure accurate completion and sign-off of job cards

• Book all parts and consumables used, including oils, to the relevant job cards

• Prepare tools, equipment, and required parts for service bay operations

• Perform scheduled services in line with manufacturer specifications and maintenance systems

• Carry out visual inspections, calibrations, adjustments, and related technical tasks

• Identify abnormal wear, defects, or irregularities and report findings to the Workshop Foreman

• Reset maintenance systems in line with internal procedures

• Dismantle, inspect, and reassemble components, replacing with new or reconditioned parts as required

• Prepare dismantled parts for return or reconditioning and document all work performed

• Compare vehicle condition against standard production specifications to assess technical compliance

• Perform final inspections and testing to confirm repairs are complete and vehicles are roadworthy

Professional Conduct and Compliance

• Maintain a high standard of professional conduct at all times

• Support operational requirements within the workshop as needed

• Adhere to company dress code in line with Standard Operating Procedures

• Maintain daily housekeeping standards within the workshop

• Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety requirements

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric)

• Qualified and trade-tested Commercial Vehicle Diesel Technician

Skills Required

• Ability to apply appropriate technical methods to deliver quality workmanship

• Basic analytical skills to assess vehicle usage and fault patterns

• Understanding of business principles relevant to workshop operations

• Ability to interact professionally with customers within the scope of work

• Hazard identification and safe handling in line with Health and Safety guidelines

• Ability to apply basic Health and Safety procedures under guidance and supervision
