Job Description
The Bookkeeper is responsible for supporting accurate financial reporting, cash management, and reconciliation processes while ensuring compliance with accounting standards and contributing to effective teamwork within the finance function.
Key Responsibilities

Contribute to monthly financial reviews and management reporting.

Assist with year-end reconciliations and preparation for the audit process.

Analyse and prepare general ledger account reconciliations.
-
Support the Accountant with debtors, revenue processing, journals, and month-end procedures.

Compile weekly, monthly, and annual financial reports.
-
Identify and highlight inaccuracies, errors, or discrepancies for correction.
-
Provide auditors with required documentation and explanations during year-end audits.

Maintain the cash book function, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded and supported by source documents.

Manage daily cash operations and update bank balances across all accounts.

Process local, foreign, and ad-hoc payments and receipts.

Issue, reconcile, and control petty cash and foreign currency floats.

Reconcile cashbooks and credit card accounts, including daily bank reconciliations and clearing of reconciling items.

Administer and control the setup of new beneficiary profiles.

Support month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.

Monitor accounts receivable and revenue functions for accuracy and completeness.
-
Verify and approve that all transactions are correctly classified and properly supported.

Provide guidance and support to team members when challenges arise.

Foster a positive teamwork ethic and assist colleagues in achieving team objectives.

Perform ad-hoc duties and provide general administrative support, including filing.
Job Requirements

Grade 12 or equivalent qualification (Essential).
-
Completed Diploma in Bookkeeping, Accounting, or a related field at NQF Level 5 or higher (Essential), or
-
Currently enrolled in a relevant accounting or finance degree (second or third year) with demonstrable foundational accounting knowledge (Essential).

Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in a bookkeeping or similar role (Essential).

Experience using accounting software packages (Advantageous).

Ability to work with physical cash, including managing multiple cash boxes.

Willingness to work overtime when operationally required.
-
Sound understanding of financial transactions, including debits and credits.

Knowledge of organisational cash management practices.
-
Familiarity with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
-
Solid understanding of fundamental accounting principles.
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Ability to perform accurately in a pressurised, deadline-driven environment.

Exceptional attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.

Strong technical skills, including balancing and reconciling physical cash against system records.

Ability to coach and mentor team members.
