Job Description
The Assistant Manager supports the Store Manager in protecting and growing profitable market share by ensuring effective execution of store, divisional, and company strategies. The role contributes to strong operational performance, customer satisfaction, asset control, and people management within the store.
Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 with a minimum of 2 years retail management experience

Valid driver’s licence
-
Valid ID or valid local work permit
-
Strong accounting and numerical skills
-
Ability to work effectively under pressure
-
Basic computer literacy
-
Strong leadership and administrative skills
-
Own transport and mobile phone
-
Sound knowledge of Health and Safety requirements in line with OHSA and relevant legislation

Strong Human Resources management skills
Key Performance Areas
Strategic Management

Assist the Store Manager in developing, implementing, and managing the Store Business Plan
-
Ensure alignment with company strategy and approved strategic initiatives
Grow and Protect Market Share

Support the achievement of market share growth in line with strategic objectives

Assist in achieving sales budgets and category growth targets

Promote customer loyalty programmes such as VIC and charge cards

Support effective distribution of advertising material

Asset Control – Stock

Assist in managing and controlling shrinkage

Support the Perpetual Inventory Control (PIC) process

Assist with wall-to-wall stock takes

Monitor and control stock movement including end control, IBTs, customer returns, and receiving

Support analysis and implementation of store security requirements

Assist in maintaining physical security measures
Asset Control – Cash

Assist with management of debtors and returned cheques

Support petty cash control and daily banking processes
-
Assist in managing cash shortages, overs, cheques, and credit card transactions
Asset Control – Fixed Assets

Assist with maintenance and protection of racking, displays, and signage
-
Support maintenance of forklifts, generators, IT equipment, and telephone systems
-
Assist with maintenance and protection of the store safe
Human Resource Management

Support recruitment, induction, and onboarding of employees
-
Assist in ensuring training and development programmes are implemented
-
Support succession planning and career pathing within the store
-
Assist with manpower planning in line with company benchmarks
-
Maintain open communication with the Store Employee Committee

Assist with managing employee relations
Store Safety (OHSA) Standards

Support management of safety in line with OHSA and applicable legislation

Ensure completion of safety checklists

Assist with appointment of safety representatives

Support reporting and recording of incidents

Assist in maintaining housekeeping standards
