Job Description
The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in driving sales growth, profitability, and operational excellence. This role focuses on analysing performance, managing promotions, controlling waste and shrinkage, and ensuring smooth daily store operations, including opening and closing procedures.
Key Performance Areas
Sales and Profit Management

Analyse sales, margins, and profit performance to identify opportunities for improvement

Monitor promotional performance and supplier-driven promotions

Identify root causes of margin variances and implement corrective actions

Ensure waste levels are managed within agreed targets

Control and reduce store shrinkage in line with set objectives

Drive sales opportunities through effective in-store execution
Promotional Planning and Execution

Coordinate and manage in-store promotional activities
-
Plan and prepare for major promotional events

Monitor promotional stock levels to ensure availability and effective sell-through
Store Operations
Opening Procedures

Open the store in accordance with SOPs and deactivate alarm systems

Conduct full store and departmental checks as per operational standards

Verify refrigeration temperatures across all store refrigeration units

Review and action the store handover and action list from the previous shift
-
Hand over safe keys to the front-end controller and ensure cashiers are in position
Closing Procedures

Secure the store, activate alarm systems, and complete end-of-day checks

Inspect all departments in line with SOP requirements
-
Confirm refrigeration temperatures prior to store closure
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications and Experience

Matric qualification
-
Relevant diploma is advantageous
-
3–4 years’ experience in retail operations, including service departments
-
Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a supervisory role
