Forklift Driver – Cashbuild Vacancies
Job Purpose
The Forklift Driver is responsible for operating and maintaining the forklift in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner while delivering excellent customer service. The role also supports merchandising, shelf price labelling, and housekeeping within the assigned area of responsibility.
Minimum Requirements
-
Grade 12 or a minimum of one year’s relevant work experience
-
Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language
-
Ability to perform basic calculations accurately
-
Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
-
Ability to work effectively under pressure
-
Physically fit to operate a forklift
-
Valid forklift driver licence
Key Performance Areas
Customer Service
-
Acknowledge all customers and identify their needs promptly
-
Provide accurate product advice and respond to customer queries
-
Resolve customer complaints efficiently or escalate where required
-
Promote add-on sales and related products
-
Ensure customer purchases are loaded promptly and carefully without damage

Advise customers on available additional services, including delivery, bulk deposits, glass cutting, plan reading, credit programmes, special orders, trusses, distant ordering, and the VIC Customer Programme

Maintain required product knowledge certification

Remain available within the assigned aisle at all times
Merchandising Standards
-
Merchandise bulk stock safely according to store layout plans
-
Ensure the allocated area is fully merchandised in line with approved layouts and planograms
Housekeeping
-
Maintain a clean, safe, and obstacle-free work area
-
Ensure stock is merchandised immediately after receipt
-
Allow customers safe access through aisles without risk of injury or inconvenience
-
Maintain correct shelf price labelling within the area of responsibility
-
Complete required housekeeping checklists, including canteen and toilet/shower schedules

Loss Prevention and Security

Identify display gaps, investigate causes, and report concerns to Management
-
Remain vigilant of suspicious behaviour and report potential risks
-
Ensure no products are loaded without valid proof of purchase or required documentation
Safety (OHSA) Compliance
-
Operate the forklift within safe load limits at all times
-
Prevent overloading of racking and shelving
-
Wear required safety equipment, including safety helmet and kidney belt, when operating the forklift
-
Never use the forklift to lift personnel
-
Ensure entrances and exits remain clear and safe for customers
-
Report any forklift faults immediately and notify Management of upcoming service requirements
-
Wear protective clothing when required
-
Do not operate the forklift if mechanical faults are present
-
Conduct daily forklift inspections, complete checklists, and report all defects
