Purpose of the Job
The Tyre Maintenance Controller is responsible for performing routine tyre maintenance across the Value fleet, including attending to tyre breakdowns and conducting tyre surveys at various sites.
Key Responsibilities
Tyre Stock Management
- Ensure all tyre stock is securely stored at all times.
- Assist with investigating and reporting discrepancies daily.
- Support monthly cycle counts of tyre inventory.
Tyre Surveys
- Travel to sites as required to conduct tyre inspections.
- Prioritize vehicle tyre surveys based on the fleet list provided by your supervisor.
- Perform daily tyre surveys using Intersect Tyre Management Software or manual documentation when offline.
- Record accurate tyre information, including brand numbers, wheel positions, tyre pressure, and tread depth.
- Ensure all vehicle tyres, including spares, are checked and maintained monthly.
- Spray spare wheel rims with red paint for easy identification.
- Confirm all wheel nuts are torqued correctly and wheel nut indicators are fitted.
- Take photos of scrap tyres and submit to your supervisor.
- Provide regular updates to your supervisor on surveyed vehicles, tyre issues, and outstanding inspections.
Tyre Branding
- Report tyres missing brand numbers to your supervisor.
- Apply branding to tyres as per the provided listing.
Tyre Replacement & Rotations
- Identify and replace smooth, punctured, or damaged tyres following SOPs.
- Complete tyre change slips accurately and submit daily to your supervisor.
- Rotate tyres according to tread matching requirements and maintain proper documentation.
Breakdowns
- Ensure the breakdown support vehicle is stocked with correct tyres.
- Respond promptly to tyre-related breakdowns while adhering to South African driving regulations.
- Complete breakdown reports and tyre change slips, and return damaged tyres to the depot for supervisor review.
Company Equipment & Assets
- Secure tyre maintenance tablets and vehicle keys at the end of shifts.
- Conduct daily vehicle checklists and submit to your supervisor.
- Ensure vehicles are parked, locked, and all tools are maintained in working order.
- Report defective tools or vehicle damages immediately.
Housekeeping
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and company vehicle at all times.
Health & Safety
- Comply with all safety regulations and use PPE correctly.
- Report health and safety hazards or near misses immediately.
General
- Adhere to all company policies, SOPs, HR procedures, POPIA regulations, dress code, and attendance requirements.
- Assist with any additional company needs as required.
- Weekend work may be required occasionally.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Code B driver’s license
- 1–2 years of heavy-duty tyre experience
- Physically able to lift heavy objects
