Job Description
Truworths is seeking an experienced Payroll Accounting Manager to oversee the end-to-end payroll accounting function within the Employee Benefits Department. This role ensures financial accuracy, compliance with payroll legislation, and timely processing of employee payments. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical skills, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is deadline-driven.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage payroll processes across RSA, African countries, and the UK, including general ledger management, verification of payroll data, and timely payment of employees.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll-related legislation, including employees’ tax, benefits, earnings, and deductions.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and prepare management and statutory reports.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies efficiently.
  • Collaborate with the Employee Benefits Department to ensure accurate employee data and payroll records.
  • Support audits related to payroll and benefits.
  • Develop and implement processes to enhance payroll efficiency and accuracy.
  • Oversee financial impacts of share incentive schemes.
  • Assist with other accounting and finance functions as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience, including at least 3 years in payroll-focused accounting and 2 years in a leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll systems, accounting principles, and payroll regulations.
  • Strong understanding of South African payroll and tax laws; working knowledge of the Employee Tax Incentive (ETI) is advantageous.
  • Experience in payroll reconciliations, bi-annual employee tax submissions, and preparation of annual tax certificates.
  • Proficient in payroll software (e.g., Oracle) and Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams.
  • Budgeting and forecasting experience for RSA and African countries.
  • Experience managing share incentive scheme reconciliations (share gains, dividends, etc.).
