Job Description
Dis-Chem Sandown store in Parklands is seeking a Casual Frontshop Assistant to maintain high merchandising standards while delivering excellent customer service at the point of sale, following all Dis-Chem policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Essential:
- Grade 12 – Matric or Senior Certificate
- 0 – 6 months retail work experience
Advantageous:
- 1 year retail work experience
- Certification in Retail Business Management
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure all products are stocked, neatly presented, and within sell-by dates.
- Restock merchandise to maximize sales and follow up on out-of-stock queries promptly.
- Store and organize delivered stock correctly, ensuring the storeroom is neat and tidy.
- Maintain accurate pricing, labels, and merchandise displays, reporting any discrepancies.
- Assist customers with product knowledge, purchases, exchanges, and returns as authorised.
- Process payments including cash, cards, vouchers, coupons, and loyalty cards.
- Handle cash accurately, place it in the drop safe, and ensure proper approval for line voids and price changes.
- Rotate stock regularly and adhere to Dis-Chem stock control procedures.
- Report low stock levels, damaged, or expired stock to management.
- Support stock counting, stocktaking, and the loading/unloading of stock.
- Flatten boxes after unpacking and maintain the designated area tidy.
- Provide professional, courteous, and helpful assistance to all customers.
- Report customer compliments, complaints, and suspicious behaviour to management.
- Adhere to customer turnover per hour targets.
- Assist in training new and existing team members.
- Maintain housekeeping according to Dis-Chem standards.
- Follow all Dis-Chem Policies, Standard Operating Procedures, Health and Safety regulations, and uniform/personal appearance guidelines.
Competencies:
Essential:
- Knowledge of retail operations and administration
- Problem-solving and ability to escalate issues appropriately
- Basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
- Clear verbal communication and timely customer response
- Ability to follow procedures and take personal responsibility for quality work
Advantageous:
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook), SAP, and numerical skills
Special Conditions of Employment:
- Ability to work retail hours
- South African citizen
- MIE, clean criminal record, and clear credit rating
- Driver’s license and reliable transport
