Job Description
Dis-Chem Sandown store in Parklands is seeking a Casual Frontshop Assistant to maintain high merchandising standards while delivering excellent customer service at the point of sale, following all Dis-Chem policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • Grade 12 – Matric or Senior Certificate
  • 0 – 6 months retail work experience

Advantageous:

  • 1 year retail work experience
  • Certification in Retail Business Management

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all products are stocked, neatly presented, and within sell-by dates.
  • Restock merchandise to maximize sales and follow up on out-of-stock queries promptly.
  • Store and organize delivered stock correctly, ensuring the storeroom is neat and tidy.
  • Maintain accurate pricing, labels, and merchandise displays, reporting any discrepancies.
  • Assist customers with product knowledge, purchases, exchanges, and returns as authorised.
  • Process payments including cash, cards, vouchers, coupons, and loyalty cards.
  • Handle cash accurately, place it in the drop safe, and ensure proper approval for line voids and price changes.
  • Rotate stock regularly and adhere to Dis-Chem stock control procedures.
  • Report low stock levels, damaged, or expired stock to management.
  • Support stock counting, stocktaking, and the loading/unloading of stock.
  • Flatten boxes after unpacking and maintain the designated area tidy.
  • Provide professional, courteous, and helpful assistance to all customers.
  • Report customer compliments, complaints, and suspicious behaviour to management.
  • Adhere to customer turnover per hour targets.
  • Assist in training new and existing team members.
  • Maintain housekeeping according to Dis-Chem standards.
  • Follow all Dis-Chem Policies, Standard Operating Procedures, Health and Safety regulations, and uniform/personal appearance guidelines.

Competencies:

Essential:

  • Knowledge of retail operations and administration
  • Problem-solving and ability to escalate issues appropriately
  • Basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Clear verbal communication and timely customer response
  • Ability to follow procedures and take personal responsibility for quality work

Advantageous:

  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook), SAP, and numerical skills

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Ability to work retail hours
  • South African citizen
  • MIE, clean criminal record, and clear credit rating
  • Driver’s license and reliable transport
