Job Overview
The Mechatronics Apprentice role combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction to teach the practical and theoretical aspects of mechatronics. Apprentices will develop skills in mechanical, electrical, electronic, and computer systems, including AI applications used in industrial automation and robotics. The program includes hands-on training, mentorship, and assessments culminating in a trade test at accredited Trade Centres.
Responsibilities / Learning Areas
Installation & Maintenance
- Assist in installing mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance on mechatronic systems.
Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and repair faults in mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Work with PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and actuators.
Fabrication & Assembly
- Operate machine shop tools to produce precision parts.
- Weld and join components as required.
Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of work performed.
- Follow safety and compliance standards.
Learning & Development
- Attend classroom and lab training sessions.
- Complete assignments, tests, and practical projects.
- Participate in mentorship and coaching sessions.
- Undertake learner readiness assessments, RPL assessments, gap training, and final trade test.
- Commit to completing all training sessions, submissions, and practical applications.
- Communicate learning concerns promptly to course facilitators and HR personnel.
Qualifications
- Education: Matric/Grade 12 certificate or N3 in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
- Age: Minimum 18 years.
- Physical: Ability to lift 12–25 kg and work in industrial environments.
- Medical fitness is compulsory; mechanical aptitude test may be required.
