Boilermaker – Value Logistics

Purpose of the Job
The Boilermaker is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal components used in truck bodies. The role requires high precision and attention to detail to ensure all work meets quality and safety standards. The Boilermaker collaborates with workshop teams to complete projects efficiently while maintaining equipment and documenting completed tasks accurately.

Key Responsibilities

Metal Fabrication and Welding

• Cut, shape, and assemble metal components with precision
• Operate fabrication tools such as plasma cutters, grinders, and shears effectively
• Apply appropriate welding techniques to complete tasks accurately
• Stay updated with modern welding and fabrication technologies
• Select suitable materials based on project specifications
• Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to understand job requirements
• Measure and mark metal components accurately to ensure correct alignment and fit
• Repair damaged truck body components and perform routine maintenance work

Quality Control and Safety Compliance

• Inspect finished work carefully to ensure it meets quality standards
• Follow all safety regulations and workshop procedures
• Clean and maintain welding and fabrication equipment regularly
• Identify and resolve issues that arise during the fabrication process

Collaboration and Communication

• Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate daily tasks
• Work closely with foremen and managers to maintain high-quality output
• Complete assigned tasks within project timelines
• Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and time spent on projects

Panel Shop Operations

• Review job cards or quotations to determine required work
• Inspect vehicles and compare with job card details to identify required parts
• Identify any additional damage that may require attention
• Order necessary parts and follow up on outstanding orders
• Verify that all ordered parts are correct and free from damage
• Ensure parts that require painting are sent to the paint shop with the vehicle
• Strip and reassemble vehicles as required
• Ensure proper panel alignment and correct fitment of all components
• Conduct a final inspection to ensure work meets high-quality standards
• Perform a physical roadworthiness check before vehicle release

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Red Seal Trade Certificate
• Minimum of 5 years’ relevant workshop experience

• Exceptional attention to detail to ensure precise measurements, alignment, and high-quality workmanship
• Strong commitment to safety practices and compliance with workshop safety standards
• Proven ability to cut, shape, and weld metal components accurately
• Skilled use of fabrication tools including plasma cutters, grinders, and shears
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and technical specifications
