Tyre Maintenance Controller – Value Logistics
Purpose of the Role
The Tyre Maintenance Controller is responsible for conducting routine tyre maintenance, breakdown support, and tyre surveys across various operational sites for the company fleet. This role ensures optimal tyre performance, safety compliance, and accurate reporting while supporting efficient fleet operations.
Key Responsibilities
Stock Management
• Ensure tyre stock is securely stored and controlled at all times
• Assist in investigating and reporting stock discrepancies daily
• Support monthly stock cycle counts
Tyre Surveys and Inspections
• Travel to designated sites to perform tyre inspections and maintenance
• Prioritise vehicles based on fleet schedules provided by the supervisor
• Conduct daily tyre surveys using the tyre management system, with manual backup when required
• Accurately capture tyre data including brand numbers, wheel positions, tyre pressure, and tread depth
• Ensure all vehicles and spare wheels are inspected monthly and tyre pressures are corrected
• Report missing spare wheels and maintain clear identification by marking spare rims
• Ensure wheel nuts are properly torqued and fitted with securing indicators
• Replace missing wheel nut indicators where required
• Capture and submit images of scrap tyres to the supervisor
• Provide daily updates on completed surveys, identified issues, and outstanding tasks
Tyre Branding
• Identify tyres without branding and report to the supervisor
• Apply tyre branding as per company requirements
Tyre Replacement and Rotation
• Identify and replace worn, punctured, or damaged tyres in line with procedures
• Perform tyre rotations according to tread requirements
• Complete tyre change documentation accurately and submit daily
Breakdown Support
• Ensure breakdown vehicles are equipped with the correct tyres and tools
• Respond promptly to tyre-related breakdowns at various locations
• Handle breakdowns with urgency while adhering to driving and safety regulations
• Complete all required breakdown reports and tyre change documentation
• Return damaged tyres to the depot and hand over to the supervisor with relevant paperwork
Company Equipment and Assets
• Secure all company devices, tools, and equipment when not in use
• Conduct daily vehicle inspections and submit reports to the supervisor
• Ensure company vehicles are properly parked, locked, and managed
• Report any vehicle damage or incidents immediately
• Maintain tools in good working condition and report defects
• Submit weekly tool checklists
Housekeeping
• Maintain a clean and organised work environment and vehicle at all times
Health and Safety Compliance
• Adhere to all health and safety regulations and procedures
• Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times
• Report hazards, incidents, and near misses immediately
General Responsibilities
• Comply with all company policies and procedures, including SOPs, HR policies, and operational standards
• Maintain professional conduct in line with company expectations
• Assist with additional operational requirements when needed
• Be available to work weekends when required
Minimum Requirements
• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Valid Code B driver’s license
• 1–2 years’ experience in heavy-duty tyre maintenance
• Physically fit and able to handle heavy lifting
