Diesel Mechanic – Value Logistics

Purpose of the Role

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for performing all maintenance and repair work on customer vehicles according to the Value job card. This role ensures that vehicles are serviced, repaired, and maintained to manufacturer specifications, guaranteeing operational reliability and roadworthiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct visual inspections and on-board diagnostics during pre-diagnosis
  • Review workshop job cards for accuracy and clarity before commencing work
  • Adhere to flat rates on all repairs
  • Attend to both office-hour and after-hour breakdowns
  • Ensure all parts used are accurately booked to the job card, including engine oils
  • Prepare operating equipment and supply all necessary parts to the service bay
  • Perform maintenance services in line with manufacturer specifications and scheduled maintenance
  • Conduct visual inspections, calibration, adjustments, and minor repairs
  • Identify deviations, unusual wear, or irregularities, and report to the Workshop Foreman
  • Reset maintenance systems and prepare dismantled parts for return or reconditioning
  • Inspect, replace, or recondition disassembled parts as required
  • Compare vehicle condition with standard production configurations and evaluate technical status
  • Perform final checks using testing and measuring equipment to confirm repairs are complete and vehicles are roadworthy
  • Maintain professional conduct in all interactions
  • Assist with operational tasks as required
  • Comply with company dress code and maintain housekeeping standards
  • Adhere to Health and Safety protocols consistently

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Trade-tested commercial vehicle Diesel Technician
