Tyre Maintenance Controller – Value Logistics
Purpose of the Role
• The Tyre Maintenance Controller is responsible for travelling to various sites to perform routine tyre maintenance, tyre surveys, and breakdown support across the fleet
• Ensure optimal tyre performance, safety compliance, and accurate reporting within the tyre management system
Key Responsibilities
Stock Control
• Ensure tyre stock is securely stored and controlled at all times
• Assist with daily investigation and reporting of stock discrepancies
• Support monthly cycle counts
Tyre Surveys
• Travel to operational sites as required
• Prioritise tyre surveys based on fleet lists provided by the Supervisor
• Conduct daily tyre surveys using the tyre management system or manual records when required
• Capture accurate tyre data including brand numbers, wheel positions, tyre pressure, and tread depth
• Ensure all vehicles and spare wheels are surveyed monthly
• Maintain and correct tyre pressures as needed
• Report missing spare wheels to the Supervisor
• Mark spare wheel rims for easy identification
• Ensure wheel nuts are torqued and fitted with securing indicators
• Install missing wheel nut indicators where required
• Photograph scrap tyres and submit to the Supervisor
• Provide daily updates on surveyed vehicles, tyre issues, and productivity
Tyre Branding
• Identify tyres without brand numbers and report to the Supervisor
• Apply tyre branding according to approved listings
Tyre Replacement
• Identify and replace worn, punctured, or damaged tyres according to SOP
• Complete tyre change slips accurately and on time
• Submit tyre change documentation daily
Tyre Rotations
• Perform tyre rotations according to tread matching guidelines
• Complete and submit tyre change slips daily
Breakdown Support
• Ensure breakdown vehicles are equipped with correct tyre sizes and quantities
• Respond promptly to tyre-related breakdowns
• Handle breakdowns efficiently while complying with road regulations and company policies
• Complete breakdown reports and tyre change documentation
• Return damaged tyres to the depot and submit all required documentation
Company Equipment and Assets
• Ensure tyre maintenance devices are securely stored when not in use
• Complete daily vehicle checklists and submit to the Supervisor
• Ensure vehicles are parked and locked after use
• Hand over vehicle keys at the end of each shift
• Report vehicle damages and accidents immediately
• Ensure all tools and equipment are in proper working condition
• Submit weekly tool inspection checklists
• Report defective tools promptly
Housekeeping
• Maintain a clean and organised work area and company vehicle at all times
Health and Safety
• Ensure the safety of yourself and colleagues at all times
• Follow all health and safety regulations and procedures
• Use correct PPE at all times
• Report hazards, incidents, and near misses immediately
General Responsibilities
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures
• Follow SOPs, HR policies, POPIA guidelines, dress code, and attendance rules
• Assist with additional operational requirements when needed
• Be available for occasional weekend work
Minimum Requirements
• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Valid Code B Driver’s License
• 1–2 years’ experience in heavy-duty tyre maintenance
• Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects

• Good attention to detail and accuracy
• Basic administrative and record-keeping ability
• Good time management and organisational skills
• Ability to work independently and under pressure
• Strong awareness of safety and risk management
