About the Role
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the picking function and inventory control processes within the warehouse. This role manages both permanent and outsourced staff, ensuring accurate order fulfillment, adherence to processes, and achievement of productivity targets while maintaining high standards of safety and efficiency.
Purpose of the Job
The Warehouse Supervisor will manage end-to-end picking operations, ensure system-driven processes are followed, and support overall warehouse performance. The role focuses on delivering accurate, timely, and cost-effective service while maintaining discipline, compliance, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Operations
- Supervise, guide, and support warehouse picking staff
- Maintain a disciplined, efficient, and well-controlled work environment
- Conduct daily check-ins to monitor progress, productivity, and challenges
- Ensure all picking activities follow established processes and standards
- Verify that system-driven picking is followed and stock is selected from correct locations
- Perform random checks to ensure picking accuracy in items and quantities
- Monitor and achieve productivity targets for picking operations
- Coordinate with warehouse planners to align picking with dispatch schedules
- Ensure timely completion of picking to avoid delays and additional costs
- Monitor equipment such as pallet jacks and scanners to ensure proper functionality
- Ensure all administrative processes are accurately followed
- Provide daily reports on productivity, delays, and accuracy levels
- Maintain records of staff performance and process deviations
Warehouse Supervision
- Lead, train, and motivate the picking team
- Enforce company policies and disciplinary procedures
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
- Conduct regular team meetings and provide feedback for improvement
Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare daily and weekly reports on productivity, accuracy, and inventory
- Track key performance indicators such as order accuracy and picking timelines
- Maintain documentation for internal and external audits
Health and Safety Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with occupational health and safety standards
- Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions
- Maintain a safe and hazard-free working environment
Housekeeping
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe warehouse environment
- Ensure aisles and storage areas are free from obstructions
- Implement and monitor daily housekeeping routines
- Ensure proper waste disposal and adherence to hygiene standards
- Conduct inspections to identify and address risks
- Ensure tools, equipment, and PPE are stored and maintained correctly
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field preferred
- Experience in warehouse picking operations
- Previous supervisory or team leader experience
Skills Requirements
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Knowledge of warehouse management systems and inventory control practices
- Good numerical and literacy skills
