Tyre Maintenance Controller – Value Logistics
Purpose of the Role
The Tyre Maintenance Controller is responsible for traveling to various operational sites to perform routine tyre maintenance, breakdown assistance, and tyre surveys for the company fleet. The role ensures optimal tyre performance, safety compliance, and accurate reporting across all vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
Stock Control
- Ensure all tyre stock is secured and properly stored at all times
- Assist with daily discrepancy investigations and reporting
- Support monthly stock cycle counts
Tyre Surveys
- Travel to designated sites as required
- Prioritize tyre inspections based on fleet schedules provided by the supervisor
- Conduct daily tyre surveys using the tyre management system, with manual backup when necessary
- Accurately capture tyre data including brand numbers, wheel positions, pressure, and tread depth
- Ensure all vehicles, including spare wheels, are inspected monthly
- Report missing spare wheels and mark spare wheel rims for easy identification
- Ensure wheel nuts are properly torqued and indicators are installed where required
- Document and report tyre conditions, including scrap tyres with photographic evidence
- Provide daily updates on completed surveys, outstanding work, and identified issues
Tyre Branding
- Identify tyres without brand numbers and report accordingly
- Apply branding as per company requirements
Tyre Replacement
- Identify and replace worn, damaged, or punctured tyres in line with standard procedures
- Complete and submit tyre change documentation accurately and on time
Tyre Rotations
- Perform tyre rotations according to tread matching guidelines
- Ensure all related documentation is completed and submitted daily
Breakdown Assistance
- Prepare breakdown vehicles with correct tyre sizes and quantities
- Respond promptly to tyre-related breakdowns
- Handle breakdowns with urgency while complying with driving and safety regulations
- Complete breakdown reports and ensure proper documentation of tyre changes
- Return damaged tyres to the depot and submit all required documentation
Company Equipment and Assets
- Safeguard company devices and equipment at all times
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections and submit reports
- Ensure vehicles are securely parked and keys are properly stored after each shift
- Report all vehicle damages or incidents immediately
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition
- Submit weekly tool checklists and report any defects
Housekeeping
- Maintain cleanliness of the work area and company vehicle at all times
Health and Safety
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations and procedures
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
- Report hazards, incidents, and near misses immediately
- Ensure safe handling of all materials, including hazardous goods
General Responsibilities
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and operational standards
- Follow guidelines related to training, conduct, attendance, and workplace behavior
- Provide support with additional tasks as required
- Be available for occasional weekend work
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Valid Code B driver’s license
- 1–2 years’ experience working with heavy-duty tyres
- Physically fit and able to handle heavy lifting
