Main Purpose of the Role
The General Manager is accountable for the overall performance of the Ford Silverton Contract Logistics account in South Africa. This role ensures alignment of DSV strategy across all operational areas, including inbound airfreight, while delivering a world-class logistics solution. The position holds full responsibility for contract compliance, client relations, operational excellence, financial performance, people management, continuous improvement, and innovation.
The role ensures that DSV Contract Logistics strategies, standards, and initiatives are effectively cascaded throughout the operation, while maintaining full compliance with company policies and procedures. The General Manager plays a leading role in developing value-added services and solutions for the automotive industry.
Duties and Responsibilities
Client Strategy
- Develop and implement strategic operating plans aligned with client and DSV objectives
- Identify, manage, and mitigate risks related to services provided to the client
- Ensure robust operational planning and financial control systems are in place
Client Operations
- Provide full leadership and accountability for all client site operations in Gauteng
- Ensure successful implementation of all operational initiatives, including new scope
- Retain and grow the client account through service excellence and innovation
- Ensure compliance with DSV standards, including SHERQ and Quality Management Systems
- Drive operational synergies to enhance competitiveness and efficiency
Client Relationships
- Represent DSV in all client engagements and issue resolution
- Ensure consistent delivery against SLA requirements
- Conduct structured strategic and operational reviews to assess performance and identify growth opportunities
Commercial and Financial Management
- Full accountability for Contract Logistics P&L and profitability targets
- Apply strong contract and SLA management to ensure account stability
- Ensure accurate billing, debt collection, and financial governance
- Manage all commercial risks, including claims and negotiations
- Identify and support initiatives to improve account profitability
Operational Performance
- Lead operational teams to consistently achieve performance metrics
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement and lean operations
- Manage internal and external stakeholders effectively
- Proactively address client dissatisfaction, complaints, damages, and root cause analysis
People Management
- Build, lead, and maintain an effective management team
- Ensure optimal resourcing across all departments
- Apply consistent performance management and accountability
- Coach and mentor teams to achieve client and operational objectives
- Implement IDPs and succession plans for critical roles
- Drive targeted training initiatives to close skills gaps
Client Expectations
- Maintain open, transparent, and constructive communication with the client
- Ensure delivery against all service level agreements
- Lead initiatives to meet and exceed client expectations
