Assistant Manager – Cashbuild Vacancies

Job Purpose

The Assistant Manager supports the Store Manager in protecting and growing profitable market share by driving operational excellence, customer satisfaction, asset control, and team performance in line with Store, Division, and Company strategies.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 with at least two years’ retail management experience

  • Valid driver’s licence

  • Valid ID or legal work permit

  • Strong accounting and numerical skills

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure

  • Basic computer literacy

  • Proven leadership and people management skills

  • Strong administrative capabilities

  • Own transport and cellphone

  • Sound knowledge of Health and Safety legislation (OHSA)

  • Solid Human Resources knowledge

Key Performance Areas

Strategic Management

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and managing the Store Business Plan aligned to Company strategy

  • Support execution of strategic initiatives approved by Divisional and Operations Management

Grow and Protect Market Share

  • Support achievement of market share growth targets

  • Drive sales budgets and category growth objectives

  • Promote customer loyalty programmes, including VIC and charge cards

  • Coordinate effective distribution of advertising material

  • Develop proactive action plans to protect market position against competition

Customer Service

  • Implement and monitor customer service strategies

  • Maintain customer audit scores above 95%

  • Ensure reliable and prompt customer delivery services

  • Grow and retain the VIC customer base

  • Achieve transaction targets

  • Recommend range enhancements suited to the local market

  • Implement action plans based on customer survey feedback

Asset Control – Stock

  • Control and reduce shrinkage

  • Manage the PIC process and wall-to-wall stock takes

  • Oversee stock movement, including receiving, IBTs, end controls, and customer returns

  • Analyse and implement store security requirements

  • Maintain and manage physical security measures

Asset Control – Cash

  • Manage debtors and RD cheques

  • Control petty cash and daily banking

  • Monitor shorts, overs, cheques, and credit card transactions

Asset Control – Fixed Assets

  • Ensure maintenance and protection of racking, displays, and signage

  • Oversee maintenance of forklifts, generators, IT equipment, telephone systems, and safes

Human Resource Management

  • Support recruitment and induction of employees

  • Ensure training and development initiatives are implemented

  • Drive succession planning and career pathing

  • Manage manpower requirements in line with benchmarks

  • Promote open communication through employee forums and meetings

  • Support effective employee relations management

Store Safety (OHSA) Standards

  • Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety legislation

  • Complete safety checklists and appoint safety representatives

  • Report, record, and manage incidents appropriately

Store Trading Standards

  • Maintain high housekeeping standards

  • Ensure merchandising standards and correct planogram implementation

  • Maintain yard and parking area standards

Profitability

  • Support achievement of operating income targets

  • Manage the Store in line with financial models, benchmarks, and budgets
