Description

Manage and supervise all Point of Sale (POS) transactions to ensure complete customer satisfaction. Oversee all Cash Office and banking processes, as well as related POS administrative functions.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 plus 5 years relevant experience or minimum 10 years’ work-related experience

  • Ability to communicate in English and the dominant local language

  • Above average numeric skills

  • Proven ability to provide exceptional customer service

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Computer literate

  • Previous cashier experience

Key Responsibilities

POS Management

  • Ensure all speed point transactions, including credit and debit cards, are processed efficiently

  • Assist customers with requests, queries, and complaints, resolving or escalating as necessary

  • Provide fast, friendly, and effective service at all times

  • Maintain availability of stationery and consumables within the store

Cash Handling and Banking

  • Control store floats, including petty cash, till floats, and change floats

  • Manage change ordering and dispensing

  • Balance and record petty cash expenses and vouchers in the Petty Cash Ledger

  • Process Back Office transactions and perform cash-ups for all POS terminals, including bulk deposits, special deposits, charge cards, loyalty cards, and returns

  • Verify all returns are valid and correctly processed

  • Ensure timely cash clearance and pick-ups

  • Conduct End of Day sessions on all POS terminals

  • Ensure a second designated employee is present for Cash in Transit (CIT) collections

  • Oversee daily collection of store takings by the CIT company

Ready for Business

  • Implement Ready for Business processes

  • Ensure cashiers maintain their area of responsibility and that the Cash Office is clean and tidy

  • Maintain accurate filing and ensure only Cash Office-related documentation is stored in the Cash Office

People Management

  • Ensure all cashiers are present and available to serve customers and perform duties

  • Provide trained backup for cashiers and ensure daily duties are executed (Ready for Business and Beyond My Control checklists)

  • Schedule and supervise all POS employees, including leave and time-off management

  • Train cashiers on product knowledge as agreed with the Store Manager

  • Monitor and evaluate cashier performance

  • Ensure cashiers comply with the company dress code

Safety (OHSA) Requirements

  • Adhere to all safety standards and ensure compliance within the Cash Office

Security Awareness

  • Be alert to suspicious people or activities inside and outside the store

  • Maintain password security and ensure the Cash Office is secured at all times

  • Keep the Cash Office door locked during pick-ups, cash-ups, and CIT collections

  • Ensure till pick-ups are completed within set parameters

  • Restrict access to the Cash Office; safe keys must be secured

  • Keep non-Cash Office items, rations, or unrelated documentation out of the Cash Office
