Casual Merchandiser

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking Casual Merchandisers for their East Rand Mall store. This role supports merchandising standards while providing excellent customer service and ensuring a seamless shopping experience.

Minimum Requirements

Essential:

• Grade 12 / Matric
• Up to 6 months’ retail experience
• Computer literate (MS Office)
• Willing and able to work retail hours

Advantageous:

• Minimum 1 year retail experience

Key Responsibilities

Merchandising & Stock Management

• Restock merchandise to ensure maximum sales and availability
• Store and organize delivered stock and stock pulled from the storeroom efficiently
• Monitor shelf stock to ensure products are within sell-by dates
• Maintain full product ranges on shelves at all times
• Rotate stock regularly using FIFO principles
• Report low stock, out-of-stock items, damaged, or expired stock to management
• Assist with stock counting, general stocktaking, and back shopping
• Adhere to Dis-Chem store layout, planograms, and operating standards
• Flatten boxes and manage storeroom organization
• Ensure front shop shelves and products are neatly presented, labelled, and priced correctly
• Build, face up, stock, and maintain merchandising displays
• Assist with loading and off-loading stock and mark items without barcodes clearly

Customer Service

• Provide friendly, helpful, and courteous assistance to all customers
• Follow up on out-of-stock queries and resolve customer stock issues
• Establish professional relationships with customers while maintaining high service standards

Compliance & Safety

• Wear the correct uniform and badge at all times
• Handle merchandise carefully to minimise losses
• Adhere to Dis-Chem policies, procedures, SOPs, and health and safety regulations

• Strong command of English
• Presentable and professional
• Effective engagement with customers, management, and colleagues
• Trustworthy and honest
• Strong time management

Advantageous:

• Bilingual
• Knowledge of merchandising standards and FMCG industry
• Product and category knowledge
• Ability to analyse ZMORE reports for ordering and stocktaking
• Alert to and able to report suspicious or inappropriate behaviour

Special Conditions of Employment

• Willing and able to work retail hours
• Physically fit to lift and move heavy boxes while adhering to health and safety standards
• Reliable transport and/or reside near the store
• South African citizen
• Clear credit and criminal records
