Job Description
The General Assistant is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service, merchandising stock, labeling shelves, and maintaining a clean and safe environment in the store. You will also be involved in assisting customers, handling stock, and ensuring that store operations run smoothly in your designated area of responsibility.
Requirements

Minimum of Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 with at least 1 year of related work experience, or Grade 12 without related work experience.

Ability to communicate in English and the dominant language spoken in the geographical area.

Valid South African ID or work permit.

Ability to perform basic calculations accurately.

Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.

Ability to work effectively under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
-
Advise and assist customers in selecting the correct products and addressing their queries.

Assist in resolving customer complaints promptly and professionally.
Merchandising Standards
-
Ensure bulk stock areas are merchandised safely and according to the store layout and plan.

Maintain your area of responsibility, ensuring that it is fully merchandised according to store planograms.
Housekeeping
-
Keep your designated area free of obstacles and ensure that stock is merchandised immediately after being received.

Ensure customers can move safely through the aisle with no risk of injury or irritation.

Maintain correct shelf price labeling within your area of responsibility.

Complete required checklists for canteen and toilet/showers schedules.
Safety (OHSA) Compliance
-
Comply with safety regulations (OHSA), including the proper use of safety gear and ensuring both customer and staff safety within your area.

Ensure that the racking and bulk stock areas are merchandised safely for easy access and movement within the store.

Report any discrepancies or safety issues to the store manager.
Manage Stock Loss

Report damaged stock in your area of responsibility to the store manager.
