About the Role
The Boilermaker is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal components for truck bodies with a strong focus on precision, quality, and safety. This role requires technical expertise in welding and fabrication, as well as the ability to work collaboratively to meet production deadlines and maintain high workmanship standards.
Purpose of the Job
The Boilermaker will perform metal fabrication and repair tasks, ensure equipment is well maintained, and accurately document all work completed. The role supports efficient workshop operations while ensuring all outputs meet quality and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Metal Fabrication and Welding
- Cut, shape, and assemble metal components with accuracy
- Operate tools such as plasma cutters, grinders, and shears effectively
- Perform various welding techniques with precision
- Stay updated on modern welding and fabrication methods
- Select appropriate materials based on job requirements
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications
- Measure and mark materials accurately to ensure proper alignment
- Repair damaged truck body components and perform routine maintenance
Quality Control and Safety Compliance
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets required standards
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines at all times
- Maintain and clean all fabrication and welding equipment
- Identify and resolve fabrication issues efficiently
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with team members to coordinate tasks
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and managers
- Complete assigned work within required timelines
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and time spent
Panel Shop Operations
- Review job cards and quotations to determine required tasks
- Inspect vehicles and confirm required parts
- Identify additional damage where applicable
- Order necessary parts and follow up on delivery
- Ensure all received parts are correct and in good condition
- Coordinate movement of parts to the paint shop when required
- Strip and reassemble vehicle components
- Ensure proper panel alignment and fitment
- Conduct final inspections to confirm quality standards
- Perform roadworthiness checks before completion
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Red Seal Trade Certificate
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant workshop experience
Skills Requirements
- Strong attention to detail for precise measurements and quality output
- High level of safety awareness and compliance
- Skilled in cutting, shaping, and welding metal components
- Proficient in the use of fabrication tools and equipment
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
