Job Description
The Continued Airworthiness Specialist is responsible for monitoring aircraft maintenance processes and ensuring compliance with approved aviation standards, procedures, and safety regulations. Key responsibilities include:
- Review work packs before they are issued to the Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO) to ensure alignment with the aircraft status report of due items and tasks according to SAM requirements.
- Ensure that no defective or unairworthy parts are installed on any FlySafair aircraft before they are released to service.
- Inspect and accept all incoming materials, including new parts, supplies, and repaired components from contracted service providers.
- Perform detailed technical inspections of aircraft, aircraft systems, components, and parts.
- Ensure correct tagging, identification, and traceability of all aircraft parts.
- Conduct safety and quality inspections of maintenance equipment and tooling, including the calibration of precision testing equipment as required by maintenance manuals.
- Carry out in-progress inspections during maintenance, repair, modification, overhaul, or rework activities and provide final inspection approval where required.
- Monitor maintenance procedures, job progress, and documentation to ensure compliance with approved data, regulatory requirements, and established maintenance practices.
- Verify that all incoming parts include the required certification and approved documentation.
- Conduct routine aircraft ramp inspections to maintain operational safety standards.
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the aircraft documentation library.
- Ensure that all completed maintenance work follows proper procedures before aircraft are released to service.
- Complete and verify all required inspection records, reports, and maintenance documentation prior to authorised release.
- Maintain organised files for completed work orders, inspection forms, and maintenance records.
- Conduct audits to ensure compliance with maintenance procedures and airworthiness regulations.
- Record discrepancies, identify defects, and submit reports for unairworthy conditions according to FlySafair procedures.
Job Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification (Essential).
- Trade Certificate as an Aircraft Technician (Essential).
- Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Licence (AME) with B737-400 and B737-800 ratings (Essential).
- Relevant Diploma or Degree (NQF Level 6/7) (Advantageous).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Essential).
- At least 1 year of direct experience working with the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) (Essential).
- Strong knowledge of aircraft maintenance practices and aviation regulations.
- Familiarity with South African Civil Aviation regulations and technical standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
