Contracts Manager – Truworths Careers
Truworths is seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to join our dynamic team. This role is ideal for a professional with retail, project management, and contracts experience, responsible for overseeing store construction, maintenance, and project execution across South Africa and select African countries.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and manage project construction programmes, ensuring timelines and budgets are met.
- Prepare and manage project budgets and monitor costs throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure all stores are built and maintained to Truworths’ quality standards.
- Liaise with developers, contractors, and project teams to ensure premises are developed according to agreed specifications.
- Survey proposed new sites and provide feedback to the Properties team regarding leasehold work requirements.
- Advise and assist divisions with major repairs and maintenance issues.
- Manage the exportation of shopfitting elements to relevant African countries.
- Collaborate with external energy consultants and internal store operations teams on energy conservation initiatives.
- Prepare reports for the Board and relevant committees on energy initiatives and project progress.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience as a Quantity Surveyor and Project Manager.
- Strong background in dealing with contractors and managing retail construction projects.
- Retail and shopfitting experience highly advantageous.
- Matric plus relevant tertiary qualifications.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant recent work experience.
- Experience managing retail projects across Africa, including sourcing local contractors and materials.
- Knowledge of exporting and shipping shopfitting beyond South Africa.
- Awareness of energy conservation initiatives applicable to the retail environment.
Competencies
- Strong understanding of retail project management and contracts administration.
- Ability to manage multi-site projects and coordinate cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of energy conservation solutions within retail spaces.
- Effective communication and reporting skills.
- Organised, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently to meet deadlines.
